Default Van for Band

My son, James, and two mates have formed a band to play the local pub circuit. James was thinking that they need a van for transport. They would probably hire one to start with but I thought I would ask for comments.

It would need to carry: - 3 people at least, about 5 largish amps, a PA system, full drum kit and sundry bags of kit.

So I guess we are talking a tubo diesel but don't want anything too huge. They will only have about £600 but may be that would get something? What should I be looking out for?

I owned a minivan 40 years ago which is where my knowledge of vans stops and starts

Cheers, David

Will be playing this www.jameslockmusic.com plus blues and early Clapton/Hendrix/Cream rock

When I was in bands we had a Sherpa, it was awesome. never let us down, was slow as hell but a right laugh to drive.
That aside its got to be a transit or a VW transporter if they want a panel if not then a family wagon people carrier will do the trick and they will have some creature comforts too. Chrysler voyager or an old espace will do the trick.

Thanks for that Tim. I think my next move will be to traipse around a few vans-for-sale places. d

Can't go wrong with a Transit. Backbone of Britain.

FWD? RWD? Short wheelbase? Long wheelbase? Petrol? Diesel?

The choice is endless. If the band fails, they can use it to rob a bank.

I vote for the VW transporter, cracking vans, make sure it has power steering whatever it is!

Thanks. I just think a Transit may a bit on the big side??

I had a chat yesterday with a chap who had an LDF (?). Bit of a wreck but an old school bus. He had taken out most of the 16 seats but still had 5 or 6 left at the front end with plenty of room at the rear for lots of kit. Seemed just what they might want. dl
