Default Mitsi 3000 gto MR, how quick?

i keep bumping into one on the way to work and most of the time we have a little play i was expecting it to be some lardy, slouch of a car but **** me it doesn't hang about

ok, it ain't getting past and i pull away a little but there's not a lot in it in a straight line. i seem to lose him a bit on quicker corners but on tight roundabouts it's about even.

friendly enough bloke, not had the time to pull over and chat, but he flashes and gives a thumb up when he turns off

so, what sort of figures do these things put out and has anyone driven one? struggling to find much info on the MR version

there's not really a chance for any standing start stuff unfortunately, not that i launch mine hard anyway TBH.

i was just very impressed with the way the thing looks round corners, it's pretty low and stays very flat with no roll.

it makes a nice start to the day anyway

There's two versions the N/A version and the twin turbo version, the twin turbo was very fast when I drove one, can't comment on the N/A version.
They are good in corners, would suggest not as good as the STi I used to have but they do hold well

Have had a twin turbo, the Mr is about 300-320bhp. And pretty quick cars, and once moving they are very quick, and really shift at silly speeds i.e 140mph+. The once I had, had nothing more than a dawes valve fitted and although never dynoed felt like a proper 350+ car with shed loads of pull.

On a dual carraige way, I would firmly put my money on a GTO v's a mildy tunned scoob.

But they are huge - unless I put the electric wing mirrors in and was mm perfect I couldn't get the thing into my single garage.

cheers guys yeah it's a big lump of a car, never really looked twice at them TBH but it's quite nice the more i see it.

must be quite an old car now? i mean when the first MY came out.
it's a bit of an ageless car by the look of it, a bit like a Supra. they still look pretty modern even though it's a 13 year old+(?) car

MR was only 270BHP, VR4 was 321BHP

My brother used to own the Dodge Stealth version when he worked in the States, reckons it would have beaten my Scoob.

The 3000gt (Uk and Euope ) was 320 bhp, the TT ( JDM ) was officially 280 bhp, the MR was a TT without the active aero, 4ws and a few other bits iirc.
I had a MK1 series2 TT with a 5 speed box, heavily tuned and 3rd gear that would see you from 30 to 130 ( on a private road ) . The cars handling wasn`t great as standard but quite easy to stiffen up and make very grippy.
Only problem with them is service history, they are very fragile if not properly maintained. Mine went like stink but the worry of every little knock or bump costing ££££s made ownership ****e tbh.

I had a 91 tt GTO not the quickest off the line but once rolling it flew from 60 upwards as 2nd gear would get you to 80 . As for cornering it knocked the socks off all other cars i've owned including my 2006 hawkeye sti . Admittedly i don't know what was done to it. Round twisty roads i'd say the Gto would win if it was anything like the one i had .
They are such a big car on the outside but the cockpit is tiny i'm 6"1 and felt squashed in mine . Over all i prefer the allround package of the scoob apart from fuel economy lol but gto was no different .

Very heavy (1700kgs) which blunts performance. Have recently seen a test report on one from 1993(uk model with claimed 280bhp). It came last in comparison against; Porsche 968, nissan 300zx, Toyota supra. The mitsi took 4.4 secs to accelrate from 50-70 in 3rd ( about the same as an ibiza tdi130!)
The Toyota was the quickest (2.9 secs) and won the overall comparison
