I'm new to this site... was recommended I joined up from a member on FFOC.

I'm James from County Durham, I signed up on here as I'm after a new track car, and as you may have guessed, I'm looking for an Impreza as a new track car. (did have a Mondeo ST24)

I currently drive a Focus Mk2 St-Look Alike:






The car did start its life looking like this back in September 2007:

would it not of been cheaper to simply get an ST?

Nope... i was one of the first to do this to the car, all in all ive spent around £600 doing it up as it is today... so no

 

What is the point in having a car that looks like an ST, but doesn't go, sound or handle like an ST?

or have I missed the point?

 

He doesnt have to pay a ST insurance premium I would guess.

Not that Ive ever done a track day but Im not sure an Impreza is the best weapon of choice especially as you already seem to have a bit of experience. Depends on which Impreza your referring to I guess?

No stupid road tax, no stupid insurance prices, no stupid fuel costs. Its a 2.0L running 180BHP at the min. Handles better then a standard ST (Eibach coilovers fitted)

Should get yourself booked on a track day, they are great fun!

Just looking for a 2.0 Impreza Turbo... Will be stripping the interior out.

4x4 will be great to get around the corners and the turbo for the straights! (unlike the mondeo which was a bit slow)

 

Its only an extra £40 road tax a year for the ST, your insurance must have now gone through the roof with a bodykit and engine modifications which will bring the MPG, I would guess, will bring it near the STs, Wouldn't the min. £600 you have already spent have covered that?

there is a Classic 95 Turbo for sale in the for sale section, it would appear that he would accept £1500 for it, which is a bargain, take a look..

Insurance for my car at the moment with all mods declared right down to the stickers is £600... if i had an ST i would be looking at £1000

ST wont get 40+MPG.

Very nice looking car It sits really nice on the coilovers and it hasn't cost you much to do, the wheels normally sell for quite a lot.

I can see why you have built it, it's got the looks without the downsides like insurance, running costs etc. Just needs the mirrors now

I was only wondering the other day if people fitted ST parts to other focus's, I guess they do Is that an ST exhaust?

 

Its a Piper ST Replica Exhaust (with a 4inch jap style slash cut) - I got the development as I was probably the first to do this to my car, also got the coilovers pretty much free as again, i was the first to fit coilovers to a mk2

 

Looks like you did some good deals on your ST, looks nice.

That Green Impreza above looks pretty much ideal for you really, presuming you don't mind the colour and the stickers

How much are you looking to spend? I have a 95 RA (race altered) with lightweight glass, short gearing etc.

 

I got one for 1500... that was the max i wanted to spend

nice colour if you buy a new motor then do it to look like an st and the difference is the difference between buying an actual st then it doesnt make much sense even if cheaper running cost and tax but each to there own. very nice motor non the less.

 

I agree completely.

All show, not much go - the epitome of what I don't like in a car.

Hence my hatred of cars like Audi 2.0TDIs with full S-Line kit and twin exhausts or M Sport BMW 318d/118d (and to a lesser extent, the 320d).

No no and no again.

With a piquant jus of "no-ness" and a side salad of "non" leaves.

 

Not quite the same though is it. When buying a new car. Take the Audi A3 2.0TDI for example (A car I nearly ordered before buying the Golf) There are various spec's available at different prices. I specced the S-Line. Why? Because the S-Line kit makes the car look better. Not because I wanted people to think it was an S3. Just because it enhanced the looks of the car, and because it was available straight out of the factory.

Taking a factory spec Focus Titanium and spending loads of money making it look like a ST is completely different. I too think people are mad doing this. But speccing a factory kit is perfectly acceptable.

We all want our cars to look good. If a Facoty kit gives us that, then great.

 

But huge alloys and spoilers on a car with very little power? Not for me.

 

agreed some people arnt bothered about how fast the car goes, but like it to look good. All my previous cars i always went for highest spec realistic to whatever my circumstances were at the time
Like when i wanted a cheap runabout for work, and opted for 98 astra sport as opposed to the ls i had looked at earlier. Just becuase it looked that little bit better same engine etc
