Default BMW E46 325/330 coupe: looking to buy - all opinions welcome.

Well, I was thinking about building a track car for next year and having some fun, but some things that have happened recently have changed my priorities.

I'm now looking for a nice car, that I can do some miles in, will still be fun to drive, and not as expensive to run. I've always liked the quality of BMW's, so the obvious choice for me is a 325/330 coupe around an 03/04 plate. I've seen a few on pistonheads with low miles - 40k ish - for around £10k.

Is this a decent price for these at the moment? I take it reliability isn't an issue? Anything to look out for when buying?

The opinion of anyone who has owned one of these will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Alan

Had a 2000 X reg 330ci for a year great car, fantastic engine, I wouldnt bother with the 325i, slower and no more economical, check the wishbone bushes have been done (common fault), I had the camshaft inlet and exhaust sensors fail causing rough running, did them myself, not great on fuel averaged 25-28 mpg, use a bit of oil too but this is quite normal, try and find the highest spec car avialable with the all important BMW service history, the sport version being the best imo.

reliability ha ha, wait till they get older just had my girlfriends car in at a bmw dealer the vanos unit for the valve timing packed in £2500 bill for it and some other common problems. worst car i have ever had the missfortune to work on.
told her she would have been better with a impreza at least I would be able to fettle the damn thing when it goes wrong

vanos unit
cooling fan
2 new front hubs
2 new wishbone bushes
6 new spark plugs
inlet manifold and intake hose
coil pack
2 rear coil springs
airbag sensors
seat switch
thermostat housing
4 wheel alignment

that was one visit, dont let this put you off but i would ever buy another one there rubbish. Thats just my view's on them
