Company car £22K budget, what shall I get.
Landed myself a new job today and a complete suprise was that the job comes with a company car.
I have a £22k budget my only stipulations are it must have either four or five doors, diesel and have metallic paint.
I want something sporty but refined.
I'm liking the Audi A4 S Line Quattro (depends if i can screw the dealer on price its £25k List)
Any other suggestions please folks.
Cheers

Everyone has an A4 S-Line these days.
Be different. Get a Volvo V50, a Honda Accord, a Mazda 6 (new shape is great), a top spec Mondeo (almost) or a Passat 2.0TDI Sport 170PS.
A Golf R32 is in budget (prices just been slashed) but not very company car friendly.

they dont have 3k in the car , that one youve just brought up is a 2.0tdi 170hp s-line, so the top spec.
you'll get an A4 se 2.0tdi 140 with flake for around that kind of money. pm me if you serious. donesnt matter where you are neither.

I have a new shape Mazda 6 2.0d sport estate.
Cracking car! Handles very well indeed.....
Pic's speak a thousand words
They come fully loaded at sport spec so you will only have the sat nav & sunroof box to tick .
By fully loaded I mean, voice recognition bluetooth, AFS Xenons, 1/2 leather seats, heated seats, auto headlights, auto wipers, auto dimming mirror, Bose 9 speaker stereo with sub woofer that will shake your fillings out etc etc................. the list goes on and on.
Drive one and see what you think. The only negative is the plastics are not quite as good as VW / Audi but then the reliability is a damn sight better!

I've always been under the impression that Company Cars are chosen on list price... rather than a 'haggled' rate from the dealer. Thats just by my own experience and experience of friends, does it just come down to the individual company??
Have to say, that Mazda looks great.. saw a 4/5door model the other day in a striking blue colour and it looked brilliant IMO.

Which doesn't explain why you can get a new Golf R32 with delivery miles for £8k below list. And that's just the forecourt price.
My missus was looking at a £17k Audi TT V6 two weeks ago, and the same car is now advertised at £14k (and it's spotless).
It's a buyer's market - make sure you get the benefit of the big discounts around DD

Thanks guys some good suggestions there. Will definetly check out the Mazda.
Basically I have £22k to spend whatever I can get within budget that meets the crtieria is a goer. It doesn't matter what list price is other then for P11D tax value.
I could have anything from a basic spec merc to a fully loaded Astra.
I would like something with a bit of poke and refinement. 500bhp+ scoobies get tiring after a while

Gingerboy - I like that a lot and the spec sounds great. Yours has the little bits I miss from my old R32 (xenons, good stereo) plus other bits I love like a sunroof. Can I ask what you paid and what engine it has got?
I looked at the 6 just before I got the Astra - had it been out with a more powerful diesel model, I may have gone for it but the Astra was/is a fair bit quicker.

R32 has a good stereo? Thats the first part I binned for an aftermarket system+components (each to their own I guess).
I think logic, will always push towards the BMW 3 series, which is one of those cars that always ticks the boxes, but at the same time always leave you feeling that your missing out on something. Personally I'd push for a 5series (I just think it drives and handles better) or a 1 series. But that's just me.
Honda Accord would be another high choice, but they do lack outright pace. And I'll always hanker after an Alfa 2.4jtd (preferably with the Q2 torsen diff or a Q4 )

Dealers have 'apparently' not been making anything on new cars for ever - they sell as close to cost as they dare go, sometimes below it, and get huge kick-backs for volume from the manufacturer. If you know what these closely guarded secret schemes are, and offer cash on the right car just at the right moment to push them onto another incentive level, the deals can be amazing.
Right now, on big engined/luxury cars, it is not so much about profit, it is often about minimising loss. That Audi TT I've been watching at my local dealer dropped from £17k to £14k and is still sitting there. Okay, it was priced a bit high, but it's been there months - the tax ran out in August. Another TT I drove is an 04 plate V6 DSG, which was quite well priced at £15k with only 17k miles. Now after five weeks standing in the rain, the dealer just called me and offered £14,200 with 400-quids worth of road tax. How long can he afford to have it sitting there, locking up capital, when he might be able to make a shilling on some less aspirational stock? Things are going to get worse yet, if you're selling that is. So I'm waiting.
There a lovely Merc CLK320 for sale nearby. Hardly brand new, but absolutely mint after 70,000 miles, with all the trimmings and full dealer warranty. £5,995. It would almost be rude to ask for a discount, but I'm sure there's one to be had. Might put it on my credit card
Richard.

Hoppy - flippin 'eck that's cheap (the Merc)!! Same as our Jimny!!!
Shark Man - errrmmm, I did the same - upgraded the speakers and all sorts. Thought the head unit was okay for the job, and of course it looked good...
Mazda 6 diesel is a bit weedy - a real shame. If it had 150+bhp I'd think about ordering one. Still not many realising what a market there is for fastish mid priced (say low £20k) diesels - VW have done the 170bhp 2.0TDI which is okay, BMW and Audi do good 6 pot diesels but at a huge price. The 123d is interesting but I hate the 1 series body. Seems a bit of gap - it's either well under 160bhp or well over 220bhp and over £30k.

Buy it here: Murketts - Huntingdon - Cambridgeshire | Quality Prestige Used Cars, Welcome Some really nice cars.
04 plate CLK500 with 50k miles for £14k. A couple of Cayennes, including an 03 S for £17k, several nice M3s around £20k, lots of big diesel Beamers which seem to be holding prices better, and then there's a Holden for £20k with tasty APR brakes all round and, erm, 700bhp!!!

Had a look at a few today.
The Audi I want is slightly too much money.
Went to Mazda the sales man was a **** and I didn't particularly like the cheap plastic interior.
Negotiated a cracking price on a Legacy Diesel REn but I think the P11D value will exclude that.
So I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to a choice of two
a Volvo S40 2.0D R design SE (with a couple of options)
a VW Golf GT TDI with just about every extra.
I'm favouring the Volvo as I hired one last year and loved it.

If you are going to do a lot of miles I'd certainly try out the new Mondeo.
I've driven one recently and I've never been so impressed by a mainstream car before. If I was doing 20k+ Miles a year you could keep your Audi's, VW's and Lexi, I'd take the Mondeo.
Cheers
