Cracking car, I ran one for the best part of 3 years with very few problems. Servicing is reasonable, the only thing to watch out for is the front Brembo's cost a fecking fortune for disks and pads, £450ish for front disks and pads at a dealer and they will be shagged after 20k if you've used the performance. I would have one again without a second thought. Remap to 275hp and then the fun begins

Nope, it has a turbo. Same engine as the old shape Audi S3 as I remember, 225bhp stock.

cracking cars m8, i had one mapped to 265bhp and once it was going it could keep with a standard newage sti 9 (in the dry)

i never had any problems at all, 10k and had to change front tyres, brake pads are also available alot cheeper than the stealers price.

plenty of info here

I had one too mate upto 307bhp, handles really well compared to MK4 Golfs, a bit off a sod when it gets damp but overall a great car, wouldnt worry too much about cost brakes as cheap as chips at Eurocarparts.

Probably best use of the mk4 golf chassis and general superb all rounder.

I had a remapped non R cupra version and it was very capabale.

What's involved in getting to this performance level?
Also, what can be had with just a remap (i.e no exhaust mods etc?)

for 300bhp you will need to go for a bigger turbo, something like an IHI or GT28.

remap will see about 260bhp and 280ftlb on the 210/225 version the 180 version will see about 210 with a remap

I had a ibiza cupra tdi mapped to 192 bhp and 300 lb/ft and it was a eco machine. Interior build quality was poor and the ride comfort was none existant but the engine and tourqe made up for it!!!
