The one car that is heavier on petrol than the Impreza! Awesome sound from the engine due to the narrow V of the engine but not all that quick.

Yep, dire handling often overlooked because of a lovely engine

right il leave the interest on that one then. says on parkers that a scoob is around 25mpg and this golf is 31mpg. i thought the golf would be ok due to lack of turbo sucing all the fuel.

thanks for the advice chaps

I had a 96 N plate VR6 3door, Very heavy on fuel no matter if you take it easy or not. Torque is great on them and they sound awesome with an induction kit.

Lovely sounding 12v 6cyl engine, though tbh if i had the option of the golf or a corrado, it would be a corrado

The VR6 engine is notoriously expensive to repair, if something should go wrong. If it is making a tappety top end noise walk away. Corrado is a better bet of the two cars though. Also 2.9 VR6 is even more expensive to repair/parts etc...Try giving vince a ring at stealth, they are his speciality.

Just a bit more money gets you my 200bhp 205, which is not only much quicker and nicer looking than that Golf but will return a decent 30-40mpg if thats your bag and you drive it normally.

Peugeot : 200bhp Miami Peugeot 205 Mi16 on Throttle Bodies

Had one for a year, heavy on fuel (21-23 mpg), and handled like a boat even with the koni suspension I fitted, the heavy engine is far to far forward in the engine bay, sounded good though !

There is not much difference between the 2.8 and 2.9 apart from the bottom end (and power output of course) the rest is virtually the same, the body panel prices and other bits and bobs on a Corrado are stupidly priced though.

This one's a bit older but much cheaper. Well used but looks a bargain. I'd consider it myself but I've just bought a Gti

I had one for just over a year and loved every minute of it! Dusty Mauve with a quad headlights, BBS wheels, Koni suspension plus Eibach front and rear anti-roll bars, and I had no problems with the handling what so ever, obviously there would be a bit of understeer but not sufficient to get me into any bother. As for the petrol consumption, I averaged 23ish booting it, but more often than not it probably averaged out about 25/26, on long runs, steady cruising around 80 it would average (realistically) 28 but sometimes 'as much as' 31.
End of the day, its a 2.8l V6... its never going to be very economical.

I reckon go and drive a few and see what you think for yourself, have fun!

That much money for an old Golf??? What is the world coming too......

Plenty of better, faster, more economical, more fun, better looking cars out there.

But hay if its what you fancy then who are we to disagree.

Reckon like most cars, some are good some are dogs.
I racked up nearly 30k in 15 months and the only time it was in for repairs is when some stupid b*tch reversed her Chelsea tractor into the back of it then sped off (luckily we got her reg!). Other than that, totally 100% reliable.

I remember test driving a VR6 and thinking my old Nova GTi had more pull.
Very disappointed.
