Default Turbo charged car around 5k. Seat Ibiza?

I am considering selling my STI but I want to replace it with a quick car.

I am tempted to go for an import Impreza classic but wonder what else is out there.

It must have 4-5 seats, tunable, under 2L and decent mechanics and petrol.

What is the Seat Ibiza Cupra turbo like? I know nothing about them but had one stuck to my rear end a while ago and I was quite impressed.

I think an Ibiza Cupra would use the 1.8 Turbo from the golf, audi a3, etc. Anything from 150-180bhp, or (if it was new) it might be one of the "hot" diesels (upto 150bhp - but could be chipped, as could the petrol!). This might explain why it was a bit rapid

My mate has the 130bhp diesel Ibiza and midrange it is quick, in gear acceleration is v.good and he's taken it on track and even then it was doing OK against other hot-ish hatches. Was suitably impressed!

For 5K I'd imagine it was an older petrol powered car, as the hot-ish diesels are available from about 9K+

One of my friends has one running c210bhp with a re-map/exhaust/intake... its on KW Coilovers and it handles really well, if a little bumpy on broken surfaces.

If was looking for something in that range and didn't mind the 3dr/fwd drawbacks then it would be very high on my list. IIRC, the 1.8T engines come with forged internals as standard and are really reliable given they have been maintained properly.. the cambelt change is an absolute essential.

Cheers,
Grant

had an ibiza cupra for 3 year, really good cars, mine standard was 150bhp but once mapped took it to 210bhp then put a front mount on with bigger turbo as was seening 250bhp which would walk over many standard scoobys due to it been light and quick of the mark once you learnt how to put the power down, didnt think the handle was anything to wright home about......

Why under 2 litre? Personally I'd go for a Skyline GTST (R33) or a late 200SX for that money.

Just looked at the Ibiza turbo's on Pistonheads. Nearly everyone was remapped/modified which appear to give them around 200-210 bhp which is pretty impressive.
I'm not sure wether the Ibiza is a little too immature for me?

Basically for the running costs. Again the above are too big for me.

A3 1.8T Sport, same engine, bit more "mature", loads of tuning options, loads of styling options if that's your thing.

Try A clio 172/182. Cheap to run but still fairly quick. Cheap to buy too

It's GOTTA be a Glanza V. Awesome little pocket rockets and it'll save you a few pennies, for mods too, as they are a bit cheaper than 5k.

Merryhill Motors : Starlet Glanza,1.3Turbo,Roll Gage,Momo Steering Wh

What about a Daihatsu YRV Turbo? 1.3 litre 130 BHP. FOr tunability you can lob on a blitz sus air filter and blitz NU-R Spec R exhaust and BOV. Cheapish to drive and insure. Would consider an eibach spring kit and wider tyres.

Couple of picutres:

You can get them in silver,Black and red.

I think many people would read your post as implying that the OP could disregard the 2.0 rule. Could just be my interpretation, so apologies. Or were you asking "Why under 2 litre?" and separately suggesting the 200sx as it fitted his rule?

It's 2 seperate statements. One is a question the other is what I would choose if I was looking for a turbocharged car for that budget.
