Default Almera GTI track car

Has anyone had/used an Almera GTI? They seem to be really cheap, and although not widely appreciated I reckon they could make a decent track car. They are about 8 secs to 60 but strip it out and tune it (basic breathing mods; filter, exhaust, manifold, cams) and a remap should help a bit. Of course it would be stripped as it's rather lardy as standard. It also comes with front and rear strut brace as standard.

Seems like it could be ideal, but am I missing something?

Front wheel drive rules it out for me.

Having said that, if it's got a strut brace...

sware I replied to this

Anyway, they handle very well, are cheap and reliable. Prob make a good track car I'd say. Only thing I'd say will suffer would be the brakes.

i used to have a sunny 2.0gti which is exactly the same thing but lighter and quicker, i had a full straight through exhaust system, hks induction kit, stainless steel headers and i had the timing advanced a few degrees, it was seriously quick gave standard wrx's and uk turbos a very hard time

Fantastic handling car, good shell, excellent steering feedback (the best i've experienced). Definately a top track car.

Most underated hot hatch around, it handled better than my celica gt4. Actually i'm missing it now i talk about it.

Speak to a few people on here AOC - Almera Owners Club, they've done a few track days.

I'll have a '99 Almera GTi for sale in a few weeks.

Two owners from new, 51K on the clock and a full service history.

They do handle well, front and rear strut braces make the chassis very rigid. The brakes are okay with uprated pads, I use Red Dot.

u can also wack in a pulsar gtir engine, which is a 2.0 turbo, if u use the original 2.0 gearbox it will be a lethal track car and will kill most scoobys, the gearboxes are very strong i know of some1 running 350bhp through one

Yes I had a 98 S reg Almera GTI - as been said handle well out off the box, Strut braces front and rear, Fairly light on tyres, K&N filter seems to go well with the engine, would make an interesting track car
