what would you have??
just a thought at the minute but me and Gav are wanting to get on the property ladder and having a scooby and the civic type-r isn't going to work.
Too much money is going on cars so looking at getting rid of the civic and getting something cheaper and more practical (doesn't drink as much juice!)

Actually, selling both cars and buying a couple of £2-3K cars would surely be the best idea to expediate climbing onto the property ladder if you're really serious about it? Two cars losing say 500 a month in depreciation between them Versus a property that would probably be increasing in value by the same each month. Hhhmmm, tough one.
there is no way the bf will get rid of his scooby!!
I'd prefer to keep the scooby out of the 2 anyway. The money isn't so we can get a better house, its just so we have more money monthly to play with!! We probably spend over a £1000 on cars a month including petrol!!
Because I sit in 1 hour and 45 mins of traffic everyday, 5 days a week, the car is silly on petrol!!

so really you need a diesel with a bit of poke????
Sell the car get a secondhand Audi A3 TDi for about 4-5k and have it remapped
still a nice car and 45-55mpg
We can afford to keep the scooby easy, money isn't an issue when its comes to buying the house but I could do with freeing up some of my cash monthly so we can have a nice lifestyle too!!
We just want one practical car and the scooby for weekends!!

Buy an old banger - i'm serious. get an old Mondeo 1.8lx - get a good 'un for a grand keep it 3 years sell it for 300 quid and buy another.
a mate of mine (you might see himn on Sat btw) drives a Porsche Boxster, but also drives an old 205 1.1 that i flogged him for 200 quid.
he saves a small fortune running about in that
If we are truly talking practical, then I'd get something like a Fabia/Polo/Ibiza 1.4TDi, Citroen C2 1.4HDi, Fiesta 1.4 TDCI.....
I had a C3 1.4HDi and even driving in the London rush hour for 45 mins each way it would average 54mpg, on a run up the A1 it would average anywhere from 60-72mpg on a tank. Servicing was £150pa, Road tax £50pa, group 3 insurance.

Personally, I think if you are going to do this then you need to do it properly. The Subaru is the money pit so it has to go. Taking it one step further, imagine having an extra £500 in your pocket every month if you bought two normal cars. And finally, I see you are trying to get on the property ladder for the first time. Furnishing a house costs a fortune, as does doing it up and maintaining it. Somebody else pays for these things at the moment. £500 a month will disappear very quickly. Then you'll need savings, a private pension.....
a vectra st200, cheap to buy, cheap to run and insure (where theres a will theres a way) and they are a very limited edition as only 38 made by MSD with lots of goodies plus they are 2.5 v6 24v, last time i checked there was only 20-22 left. I had one for 4 yrs and never let me down or failed an mot.
as someone else has mentioned, its only a thought at the minute, not sure if I could get rid because I love my car but will just have to have a good think about it!!
There is no way the bf would get rid of the scooby!! He'd get rid of me first!

Mondeo TDCI 130 Ghia X.
Lots of luxuries, very practical and economical, good to drive...
I'm 2 years down the line of owning one that cost £1400. Have to agree its probably the "best" car I've owned for doing what it does with minimal outlays.

I have a 1.8 petrol version.
Drives ok if not a bit boring...petrol comsumption is just as bad as the scoob.
I am about to pay £350 ish for a major service with new pads and discs.
If you go for something like that, wait for one a couple of years older then the prices drop quite a bit.
Not sure on what toys you get with that, but if you can get one with heated front and rear screens, air con, then you have all you need, apart from speed

Is this the new shape??
they are excellent cars - i drove a hire car once (albeit the wheezy 1.6 petrol) and was really impressed with the road holding and ride.
the 1.8 TDCI are meant to be a belter as well as well as economical
