Well look's like my JDM STI has to go as i really need something more efficient.Looked at various car's and really like the look of these.Can pick up a low milage 06 example's for around 15k-16k.Has anyone here owned one or can comment on them.On paper they sound like torque monster's with nearly 400ft/lbs all at about 2500rpm.
I'll be sorry to let the Scoob go but 20mpg is really starting to hurt the bank account so any opinion's on the Mondeo or similar suggestion's for car's much appreciated

 

they are 400nm with a superchip re map and 180 bhp,it will be very quick ,i had a 130 tdci and that went well.

 

Sorry to disappoint mate but torque is no where near 400 ft/lbs.

My dad has got the ghia version with the same 2.2 tdci engine and it's a lovely car. When accelerating and changing up through the gears there's one nice surge when you put it into 4th.

 

To clear up the 2.2 TDCi can produce a constant 265lbft at 1800rpm. It also has an overboost feature that can provide 300lbft (400NM) for short periods for overtaking etc.

The 2.0TDCi also has this feature, 243lbft contant and 265lbft on overboost at 1800rpm.

The 2.2 uses only slightly more fuel than the 2.0 and is in the same "D" tax band but is a few groups higher insurance.

TDCi Mondeo's have a torque limiter in the first two gears so can feel slower than other diesels off the mark. In the real world this limits wheel spin and gives a massive shove in third.

Usuall Mondeo things apply. Great to drive and well built but heavy depreciation.

3 months ago I changed from a PPP'd WRX to the ST TDCi.

Average ecconomy 44.5mpg, a mixture of country lanes and 75% motorway. The best I've seen on cruise at 80 is 52mpg!!!

Great ride and handling, plenty of gadgets and comfortable. Yes they depreciate badly, but as you can reduce the list price from £23K to lesss than £16K for a delivery mileage example, the depreciation cost is less than my Impreza and cheaper to fuel and run. My new job means I travel in excess of 30K miles a year.

The car is great for 90% of the time, but I miss the quick drives down twisty lanes, especially the engine noise and all weather ability of the Subaru, but a glance at the fuel consumption computer cheers me up.

The upgrades I will consider next year are the Ford Eibach spring upgrade, to lower the height, and a Bluefin for 180+BHP.

Had mine 8 months after owning a megane 225, i was looking originally at a 330 d in either coupe or saloon, glad i didn't now as for the same price i could have either a year old ST tdci or a 4 year old 330. The Mundane handles better than you would think and the engine pulls hard from 80 mph plus in sixth. Get a super chip and on motorways not many things this side of exotica will pull away.

It's not going to be a scooby beater but it is motorway bruiser with some "limited" skills in the back road

I have had my ST estate for 12 months now and it has been a trouble free 30k. I love the grunt and it is very easy to cover ground very rapidly without drama and stress. 75mph is 2000rpm and max torque.

Handling, very level and flat around corners and the ride not bad at all for 225/40/18s rubber.

Best mpg at average 70mph is 59mpg..........
worst (driving like I stole it) is 39mpg on B roads. No oil is used.

Sony sound system is excellent and also prewired for iPod.
Build is quite good and nothing has fallen off.

Tyres, front Contisports done after 11k. (thats the torque being used) Bridgestones have done 19k and much longer lasting. Rear Contis have done the 30k, but need replacing.

If I had bought it, (Co car) I would be stressed at the depreciation on a £23.5k car, but as a del miles car from Motorpoint, would be a better bet.

All in all a great car and I get in the scoob less often as time passes.

I had one for 14 months they are a very nice car to drive and quick too , in standard form went round the Nurburgring in 9min 40secs and doing 135mph at the fastest point . I also had a bluefin fitted and it took the power to 191bhp and 320 lbs/ft of torque at 2200rpm . Averaged 44 going to and from work A and B roads , on a run I managed to get from Bath to the nurburgring on 1 tank of fuel approx 550 miles .

 

The standard sytem is very good and is cheap to upgrade.
The head unit is excellent but Ford fit their own 20W max rated speakers.

An upgrade to TS-H683 Car Speakers - - Pioneer Product Archive makes a big step up in sound quality.

You should be able to buy two pairs for around £100.

Thank's for the advice chap's.Test drove one this morning and was quite impressed.Looked at the Bluefin web site but would like to know how noticable the differance the chip make's.
All i need to do now is sell the Scoob

Not got the ST but I do have a Titanium X (company car) with the same 2.2 tdci engine.

Only had it for a week now but really impressed with it. Lots of torque (though not pushing it too hard until it's got a few more miles on it) and overall I am really pleased with the car.

Comfortable to drive and handles pretty well too. Massive boot (I have the estate) is really good.

The optional touchscreen driven sat nav/phone/radio/cd/climate control is great and even has a voice control function too !

Bought it online from buyacar.co.uk and saved just over £7K off the list price, if it wasn't for that I probably would have been stuck with a much lower spec model. Only downside was that it took 15 weeks to be delivered.

The yanks can do what they want but the UK and the nearly all rest of the world list the weight before the distance.
So its Nm, kpM, lbft, ozin etc. etc. for turning force (Torque) and you were correct in your original post

I picked up a Jan 05 5 door one last week as my to / from work car. Very impressed with the way it drives & handles, the spec is nice & the build quality is excellent. 40+mpg and it does go very well

 

I'm driving one of these for a week at the moment (hire car)

Does anyone have any figures on the fuel tank - topped up, it seems to indicate a range of 520 miles (ish) I did expect slightly more, I can do that in my 350Z - alhough that's using 80 litres...

Also - what's the spec of the stereo - it's absolutely flamin' awesome..! Soooo much better than the Nissan affair. Seriously, it's that good - a definate plus point for buying one of these.

Great car actually, can't fault it at all - not quite the power of the Zed, but then - it's doing +40 mpg I seem to have the semi WR blue one - cool, although the black looks good.

It's actually quite depressing how good this car is - makes you wonder why people buy Scoob's, Evo's 350's or whatever...

I suppose one downside is the anonymous nature of the thing, it just blends in to well...

 

Where can you hire one of these from?

 

Does anyone know when the 2.2 PSA / Ford twin turbo 170bhp motor will be available in the Mondeo? It's in the 407 already, but don't like them very much ...

 

Not until the new Mondeo next year, it's a completely different engine to the current 2.2TDCi.
It will use the 2nd gen version of this engine and is expected to push out 200bhp and 300lbft from 1500rpm.
