Default 03 Transit TDDi performance dies off...

Hi,

Currently having some problems with my van which I've just bought for work. I'm sure it's not the right forum but someone might be able to shed some light.

Ticks over fine, pulls with a heavy weight no problems, fuel economy appears fine, no missfires, but I have a frustrating issue whereby on general acceleration the power dies off early... and... sometimes it pulls strong all the way... totally random. It did it this morning, departed from a dual carriageway and found myself with loads of oomphh, slowed down and all the oomph had gone.

Any ideas?

It's a 100 T260 (100bhp unit for those no in the know).

I wish it was, don't think the van is that advanced. It's really weird. I should call it Herbie as it only wants to play when it's in the mood!

If broken yes, however it could just be playing up intermittently. Get the car plugged into a diagnostics reader, it could also be any number of sensors causing the trouble (cam/crank sensor, air flow sensor etc.)

A quick one to check is the multi-plug on the back off the accelerator pedal (it's a fly-by-wire system), or it could possibly be the diesel filter head (older ones were very poor quality). Other than that, I would guess you need it pluged in to a diagnostic computer.

Does it smoke when it doesn't pull?

Could be the EGR valve sticking.

Cheers

Blockage in the fuel line or filter.
Blocked air filters do the same, but not usally intermittant.

Power? What power.....its a van!
