Default Lowering a broken electric window - VW

Yo, guy at work has an electric window on his 97ish Polo which doesn't work. When the button is pressed you can here the click in the door but nowt happens. Haynes manual says to replace either the motor or regulator but in order to do this you have to lower the glass to remove it - how do you lower the window if the electrics don't work !!

Thanks

Strip off the gubbins on the inside of the door to reveal the workings, should be obvious then

if it's the same set-up as the mk4 Golfs then it could be the regulator clips that have broken (although the window usually drops) - the standard ones were plastic but the modified ones are metal - clips come with full regulator assembley
