Dodge Ram 5.7

Dodge Ram 5.7
Need to replace my tow vehicle. It needs to be able to do the semi-off road stuff as well (muddy fields etc.).
The Mercedes ML has been the worst vehicle I have ever owned so not going that direction again.
Just wondering if anyone here has experience with a Ram 5.7 V8 double cab 4WD?
Before you start with 'too big for our roads' etc., I live in the sticks and it does need to tow loads of over 2.5 tons.
Cheers

The one I am looking at has single air on the back, automatic and 4WD. I checked, it has driveshafts on the front as well as the back.........
Do you know if they have any common faults? Getting a bit paranoid after the Merc ML :-)

Friend had a Dodge Ram predator 5.7 ...... Its rear wheel drive, not 4WD
His is converted to gas meaning he gets 25-30mpg based on the cost of unleaded fuel.
Its very bling in black.

Haven't got any direct experience of them, but from what I've seen they are a beast of a truck! For info on reliability etc. you could try googling Dodge Ram forums and look at some of the US sites for owners experiences etc.

Well they use them to tow 5th wheel trailers (3500 version), so I should think they have a decent drivetrain.
Wouldn't rule out the Cummins Diesels either (2500/3500 models) - they are quite tunable
And don't forget the Ford F150, F250/F350 either

i know a fella that has a dodge sr10 runs it on lpg so only costs £20 to fill it up think he gets about 300miles to a tank. anyhow he uses his as a work tool not sure if its heavy enough for what you want to tow though but it replaced a big diesel dodge

Not sure I see it costing only £20 to fill up matey. LPG is around half the cost of unleaded, but the tank is a big-un. I think my mate fills his up with £40. Mind you I guess that would depend on the size of the LPG tank he has fitted.
£40 of LPG gets him just over 200 miles.

The RAM comes in lots of shapes and sizes with the options of 2WD, 4WD, Normal Cab, Crew Cab, Petrol or Diesel and the ultimate RAM the SRT-10 which has 8.0L V10 from the Dodge Viper in it. And what makes the SRT-10 even better is if you go for the short cab option, it's classed as a commercial vehicle so you can claim the VAT back if it's a company vehicle and you pay the minimum monthly company car tax. Admittedly Mr Brown will get plenty of money back each time you fill it up with petrol.
Never actually driven a RAM but did have a play with a GMC Sierra when I was in Canada a few years ago and loved it. That was a crew cab with a 5.7L V8 and 4 wheel drive.

I'm living in TEXAS at the moment, so as you can imagine every other VE-HIC-LE that I see on the road is a Dodge Ram, the other is a Ford F150. I'm driving a Jeep 5.7 V8 HEMI, so the same engine block no doubt, and have had no issues whatsoever (touch wood) I see them towing fifty feet trailers over here, however 2WD seems popular and I've been parked at the beach watching these huge, capable machines getting towed off dry sand!
How / where are you intending to buy it? I think they start here in the region of $18,000 base model up to mid thirty thousand dollars for what you are after.....

A mate of my next door neighbour has a Black 6.(something) litre supercharged diesel Dodge Ram - looks awesome.
He was looking to sell it a while back - i don't know what has happened to it - but I can make some enquiries if you're seriously interested. (Blackpool area)
Cheers
