Audi 1.8T tuning question

Audi 1.8T tuning question
I am in the process of selling my 'Fast but highly impractical car' and have decided to replace it with something which is cheap(er), comfortable and fast(ish).
I looked at audi 1.8T's (the ones from around 96-00) which can be had for a reasonable price. In thier standard form of 150bhp they are slow and I out dragged one in a BMW 323i I used to have which I would'nt exactly class as a fast car either.
Anyway I was thinking of buying an A4, chipping it (revo quotes around 200BHP), change the cat pipe, change the exhaust, change induction and slap some RS4 wheels on it to finish it off. I am assuming this would leave the car having around 220bhp (or there abouts) but what kind of performance would you expect? 0-60 in 6.5? 0-100 in 15/16?
Anyone have any experience of this?

I think you guessed about right TBH.
The brakes and handling are the weak spot basically. A thing you can add quattro hangers and calipers [325mm i think?] which help the brakes and thicker ARB's and shock spring combo will help deliver that power.
A custom remap is better than a generic, and not often lots more money.

I was aware the handling would be ****e but all I wanted was something that was comfy to drive back and forth to work in and scare the boy racers on the straights and dual carriage ways. Brakes of course would have to be sorted but in true tuning fashion do them last :P
I would also expect wheel spin central

bah no need to brag those with a standard octy vrs dont really get that........yet anyway
If you can get to a Revo dealer why not try their test map. The remap lasts for 6 hours then resets back to standard

Did anyone mention an Impreza salloon? Think the cheapest your gonna get is around 7-8k for the earlier 150 TTs, plus 2k+ for the mod to 200bhp. For the same dosh, Why not just buy an Impreza classic that has 200+ standard? My thoughts really (coming from an Audi chap!!!). Gotta ask yourself. As for the boy racer factor....Imprezas go without saying. As for practicality, 4 doors and a boot!!!! My 2 pence worth - don't mean to offend anyone if I did.

Brakes? Don't know about A4 brakes, but a front set of 312mm brakes, Pagid Blues and better spec fluid in a non-vRS Octavia would be under £500.

so far decat pipe remap and brakes so far circa 1k... I have been proved wrong. But it still doesn't match the classic WRX/ 2000AWD, handling and all.... or have I missed the plot here and started an argument? You could get an earlier S4 tho, nice.

Because you can buy an Audi A4 1.8T with 70k miles on it for £2.5k?
Show me a classic impreza that does'nt look like a bag of **** for the same money, like I said I dont care about the handling really. The audi would just be a stop gap for a few months until I decide what 'proper' beast to get.
You have'nt started an argument but just didnt read the thread properly.

From what I remember looking into mods for my wife's octavia 1.8T, there are a number of different incarnations of the VAG 20v Turbo unit as it evolved over the years, and not all of them have the same tuning potential. Not all of them could easily be tuned to > 200bhp, so worth doing a bit of research in this area before you buy.

with that engine you need to know what turbo its running on and what the standard power is as to how tuneable it is obviously the same engine with same turbo but different factory maps makes a difference eg. Octy 1.8T Elegance 150BHP and Octy vRS 180BHP

The 1.8T Quattro (180bhp) does 0-60 in 7.5 and has the benefit of 4WD off the line, so I expect 200bhp would see low 7's to 60 and probably 18-20s to 100.
I dont think you'll get an especially nice one for £2.5k tho.
