Default Attempt to purchase Focus ST

as in other thread, im change the scoob for a sommit with lower running costs.

so went to 2 ford dealerships over the weekend, after a load of spiel from the salesman about wayne rooney buying one and them being a fantastic car, neither of them could get me a focus st of any sort until september.

I find this totally ridiculous, spose its not the sales guys fault, but how can there not be enough being made, how many 1000's of standard new focus' are stood on forecourts around the country!

what i found even more amazing is the guy wouldnt even let me have a test drive unless i sorted my own insurance.

the best they both could do would take my details and ring me if they recieve any cancellations, but can not guarentee spec or colour. but i had to agree a price 1st and thre would be absolutely NO discounts.

so i need other alternative, golf gti maybe...

Lower running costs with an ST? you must be having a laugh. Have a look on the forums like FFOC and see what mpg they are getting! low 20's.

Just to rub salt in the wound, there seems to be loads on the road around here in every colour under the sun.

Mind you there is a ford foundry (sp?) nearby so everyone gets Ford privilege discount.

The depreciation alone would be staggering. Golf GTI would be closest in ability.

depreciation is always a major factor when purchase cars of course.

maybe it would make more financial sense finding a 12 month old golf gti anyway..

My local dealer can get one in about 8 weeks.

They also order stock, 3 per month so I have been told, so if you are lucky you can get one within 4 weeks. I think they order 2x ST2s in blue and 1x ST3 in black every month.

Dave Demetriou @ Polar Ford 01925 645920 was the person I spoke too.

I'm sure the S40 is a T4 and not T5, they only put the T5 in the 70 series, and maybe the 60?

what about a newish ford focus RS? Heard good things about them and seem to be holding their value fairly well.

I heard that VW dealerships can only sell one GTi a month?! My m8 works there and he got very minimal discount but had to wait as someone had bought one that month so they couldn`t sell another....what a ball ache!!

Six month wait for a Ford Focus! They can whistle

I'm biast but why not just have a spin in a new Octavia vRS.Cheaper than a Golf GTI.For those who dive in on depreciation arguments, you might be surprised

If it's anything like when I tried to buy a Puma when first it came out there's no Ford privilege discount availble for the first six months or so.

Wasn't that the one which Clarkson reviewed on top gear - I saw a rerun the other day. 250 bhp through the front wheels with only the electronics keeping it on the road by backing off the power.

Insane....he still loved it though !

Correct about the ST not being on Ford's Priviledge scheme. A mate when to get one and was told that due to high demand throughout the country, they have been taken off until all customer orders have calmed down. Which basically means they are selling a lot of them. Nice...

Strange as my mate just ordered a blue ST2 using his dads ford discount and had no problems.

Simon

Depends on the level of discount you were offered. I know I can get 10% on our scheme (agency) but I know someone who worked for Land Rover was told no chance through the internal leasing scheme they offer. So a basic discount scheme is fine but the leasing option for employees etc that is normally open to almost all their cars is not on this one. Am sure there are 2 different schemes, but the fact they have stopped ones shows the high demand. A

Yeah IIRC he got 15% off. Maybe he got in before they stopped it, who knows.

Ive owned both the MK5 GTI and the 2.5 ST

The GTI was a disaster, and will be my last ever VW ..... It was never out of the gargae and VW customer car is no exsitant.

The dealer was p1ss poor as well (EURO CANTERBURY)

The ST was a great well put together car, infact it didnt feel like a focus, miles better than my old Focus RS

BUT **Warning** never got over 19mpg out of the ST and that wasnt driving it hard.

between the two cars i would put up with the fuel of the FORD, cos the GTI was utter cr4p and unreliable. My brother also has a GTI MK5 and is having the same problems with his car, 3,000 miles and its been to the dealer 6 times for problems that come back not fixed.

Cancel the order for the ST on that basis alone!!

Sounds like the salesman had you pegged as a test pilot and was trying to fob you off mate. This months Test Drive mag managed to negotiate significant discounts on two or three ST's over the phone with a waiting time of weeks, not months!

Actually since I saw one in the flesh I'm quite taken by the new megan 225. Worth a look and being renault sport it should drive well too.
