Thumbs down Just seen a new Focus ST - Oh dear.

Well,

Maybe I'm slightly biased, but I just sat next to a Focus ST (new type!) in red in a queue of traffic.

Don't like it. Looks like a normal focus that's had all the usual max power stuff done to it. Shame, as I quite liked the old RS which was kinda muscular in an understated sort of way...

I'll stick with my Scoob ta.

What was the problem with the RS you saw then??

I dont mind the ST and IMO, it looks pretty subtle without so much as a hint of Neons or W@nker Lights!!

Cheers,
Grant

My dads mate brought his orange (yes orange!) ST round last week. To be honest its not as in your face as you might think and i quite like the look of them. Definatley a grower.

sorry but ive got to say the new ST is a very nice looking car its not in your face which is something i like as you can show up the idiots at the lights who dont know there cars. the volvo sourced engine is an absolute cracker and the focus,s chassis is superb. still wouldnt trade my scooby wagon in for it though.

I've done the Type R thing with big spoilers and loud exhausts. Now I'm a bit older, the ST is more my cup of tea.

My Clio Cup still has the white racing stripes though but the A3 is a nice sensible black.

I cant believe people think the ST looks good, the tango orange looks weaker in the flesh and even more horrible than in the pictures.

Understated it maybe but definitely more sporty than the Golf and more classy than the Astra VXR - best of both worlds i will say

Understated - yes but not plain

As was the MK2 Golf Gti - a definate hot hatch and classy with - not as brash as the crap handling Astra GTE.

A hot hatch can be classy and sporty and having seen an ST yesterday miles better looking than the VXR - even if it is more understated

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I like the VXR but prefer the Golf GTi.

I had a MY01 WRX so my opinion counts for nothing.

Maybe you should start by reading the start of this thread, and then look through all the reviews on the cars, and then talk to other people about it, tit

Drove one for an hour and whilst it was OK it wasnt exactly fast. It didnt give you that ohh my god feeling when you boot it.

Several major things made me back away from buying it.

Interior plastics are some of the worst i've seen.
Wind down windows in the rear of the 4 door, even though the brochure quotes ''All round electric windows'' if you buy the 2 models lower in the range they are standard, they are not even an option on the ST.

If you buy the ST3 with full leather you only get 2 seatbelts in the rear.

Interior Courtesy lights removed from production models.
Vanity mirrors and lights removed.

Fords response to the deleted kit was '' The model has a 5 year life and we will add rear electric windows and vanity mirrors and so on in the revised model in future years''.

Ohh and unconfirmed delivery dates, if you order now you MAY get the car in May/June

Appearance is a purely personal matter. I like cars that have a fairly plain appearance, so the (non-orange) ST looks better to me than the VXR, but I'd take an A3 over either if appearance were the only criterion.

An imperial blue ST looks superb IMO, it's subtle but has road presence and my god it goes some...serious tuning potential on them aswel

i like the vxr's chiseled shape etc but looks like they've tried to hard. I'm a ford man so am slightly biased but would have the ST of the current batch of super hot hatches.
