I drove a 2.0 litre auto from Alice Springs to Ayres rock and back over 3 days. Something like a 700 mile round trip, around 150 of it of it on un-made roads (read, dusty tracks!) and it was an absolute joy to drive.
Came back and test drove the 2.2 dci as I was serious about changing the scoob at the time, but then performance got the better of me and I went for an S3 instead.
The x-trail has a quality feel and is well screwed together, the chilled cup holders are pretty trick too !

Very good cars - 4X4 capabilities, driving position and flexibility but genuinely drives like a car ( rather than most 4X4's which drive like a tractor).
...you may also get a HUGE kick out of the new Navara and if you've never driven one you should give it a try - they look, drive and feel awesome! - 172BHP!! - goes like stink! and being a double cab has 4 luxurious seats! Very Affordable too!.

Must Agree new Navaras and Pathfinders are awesome especially the service schedule = 18000 miles or two years plus some cracking offers on new at the moment.

I test drove one the other day! Was looking for something for the other half. It just wasn’t for us.
Our requirements were four doors, biggish boot for buggy and something that was easy to get the baby seats in and out of.
I thought it was very VAN like. Wind noise at speed rolled round corners and had a noisy diesel engine….
I have been in a BMW X3 & X5 and they were impressive for a 4x4…
She has gone for a Seat Altea TDI reference sport. I’m chuffed to bits as it does 50mpg and is an insurance group6!!!

Been in a 3.0d X3 as a passanger. felt pretty good and in a different league to the x-trail... The X3 had big bling alloys and colour coded bumpers looked the business...
Also been in a £65k 4.6 X5... The was just fantastic!
