Merc E Class Bumper - Likely repair/replacement cost?
Hi All
My flat mate pulled out in front of a 01 E-Class this morn and has accepted the blame. Losing NCB gonna cost him dearly so would rather pay for the repair. Anyone have any ideas how much the bumper would be from Merc? Spraying ~£100? Don't spose the owner would be happy with 2nd hand one from a breakers.
Have heard they can do plastic welding to repair bumpers. This likely to be feasible? He says it's an 8 inch horizontal crack under the headlights.
The Merc hit his wheel so his 205 looks undamaged but steering is now off centre. What is it that actually gives to put the tracking out? Nothing looks bent so hopefully just having the alignment adjusted will sort it out.
Cheers,
Ben

He best hope it isn't an AMG cos he'll be looking at big money, if it isn't you're looking at about £200-250 for the main body of the bumper. Dependng on how low under the headlamp he's hit it may have only broken the painted moulding in which case it will only be about £50.
I think if it's a 8 inch crack plastic welding will be unlikely.
His tracking will have been knocked out probably by a bent the track rod end (steering rack end) it's not always obvoius if it's just a little bit out.

but remember there will be paint and material and labour on top.
If it were my car I'd be wanting a bumper not a repair.
Insurance is paid for a reason, its there to be used. Most people do not have a clue when it comes to the cost of even a small repair.
