Default Stripped Spark Plug Thread - 106GTi - Helicoil? Help?!?

Had a nice Christmas present last night and one of my spark plugs managed to strip the head on the block There is'nt abit of thread left on the head as the spark plug wont even bite at all. So I understand that leaves me with the only option of getting a Helicoil and getting that fitted.

So anyone have any idea of how much I should be charged for the whole job? I would'nt trust myself with the job, or If there is anyone Essex based who wants to earn abit of money over this Christmas period

Certainly not what I needed over Christmas where im meant to be driving to see Family and Friends.

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas

Sounds like a head off job to me due to the fragments of metal involved in this repair in which case you may as well get a new head so you can just do a straight swap.

Not a head off job. Helicoil kits for spark plugs are deliberately designed to be fitted with the head still on. The tang of metal which breaks off at the end once the helicoil is full inserted is retained in the tool somehow. Hundreds of these are probably done every day, you are not the first to strip the thread.

You need a reasonably competent, non franchised car servicer. Not a back street cowboy but equally not a main dealer, who would try and sell you a new head.
