Default *NEW* Golf 2.0TDi Entry Level 75PS Engine - how crap?

I saw a new Mk 5 ex demo Golf 5dr TDi hatch today at our local VW dealer for £11k - nice car I thought - cheap too - new 2.0TDi engine - should be 130BHP hopefully - although I don't think these engines are the legendary PD engines (are they?) - but I looked at the engine specs and was

remember new 2.0TDi (albeit entry level TDi engine):-

75PS -
0-60 - 18.6 secs

How in holy crap's name did they make it so slow & pants? - it must have cost VW a fortune to make it so slow!

Are these just de-tuned 110's and 140's - I means its the same basic engine - why such a HUGE disparity in performance? Would a £400 re-map unleash the beast within or is it more tricky than that?

note the 'TDi Sport's are 140PS - but 15k+

Confused.....

i think they are badged 'SDi'

Maybe the lack of a 'T' in the badge means it doesn't have a turbo?

The SDi Mk4's were dire.... but sold. I can only think that VW wanted to make them slightly more appealing by sticking a 2.0 16v TDi engine in, running a horrifically low level of boost.

Cheers,
Grant

I thought the SDi diesels were standard diesel and not turbocharged ?

Avoid the SDi....slow...and worse on fuel too!

I hate VAG dealers....why is it they never put the power rating of the engines on their adverts?....makes hunting for a 130ps or 150ps car a right pain in the ****

Yep - you were right - walked past the dealer again yesterday and it IS an SDi - my mistake.

So basically the SDi's are Standard Diesel and the TDi - is Turbo diesel.

Still don't know how the hell they sell them though with performance figures like that...

Cant see the point of the SDI. You get such good economy from the TDI anyway its hardly like you need more plus you would have to ring the neck of the SDI to make any kind of progress so would probably use as much fuel anyway. Obviously the cheaper price helps but then just but a slightly used TDI instead. A lot of people buy cars though without really knowing anything about them so its their problem if they stupidly bought one of these pigs.
