Or how many posts it will be before someone says, "You dont need to run new cars in these days, my friend never ran his car in, and its done him for 800,000 miles without a problem"

Nice car mate..

It is a 111S

05 plate because the deal Lotus gave me had to be completed by the end of Aug. So it got registered before the 55's came out. It had 6 miles on it when I picked it up.

Are these Toyota powered already, or still K-series?

The 111S has K-series in it, but they don't make them anymore, there is a small handful of unregistered 111S' kicking about.

I have an enormous list why I chose the S over the R. To get a similar spec R I was looking at least 3k more on top of the already inflated price.

Well technically new cars shouldn't need to be run in etc etc. Plus how many people will have driven it before the "new" owner and ragged the **** off it ?

But how it effects the engine is irrelevent in this case, at the 1k service Lotus will print out a log from the ECU, if you have been a naughty boy then bye bye warranty

I certianly wouldn't want a brand new one of these with no warranty backup!

Should have bought a BMW.... :P

Gorgeous car!!! Ive recently come back from a roadtrip around Europe in a Lotus Elise and a TVR Chimaera - and you would not believe the attention you get France and Italy with those cars - people crowd around when you stop, come up and get photos taken standing next to them, and shout things of approval as you drive along! The Lotus also averaged something like 37mpg compared to 24mpg for the TVR yet in the real world theres not much between them on a-roads!

Hope you have a sports exhaust on it as they sound so much nicer with one!

We had a Mk1 elise with a motorbuild 160bhp kit. It was very quick (and noisy) and being orange everyone looked

Nice mota

Forget the old LOTUS acronym. Its not true with the Elise. My S1s been a little peach since I got it.

Agree re getting yourself a sports exhaust. Have also recently put pagids on mine which vastly improved the braking.

You get a much more positive appreciation of the lotus from Joe Public than you do driving round in a scoob.

Funny you should say that.. I saw a brand new Merc earlier on trade plates with 2 merc uniformed (looked like mechanics) lads giving it a good hammering.

Deeply lovely car. I test drove the 111R before I bought the RX8. Fantastic car and very rapid when the valve timing changed (hell, it was quick before that ), but I must admit I too bulked at the price - it would have been 32K, by the time I had it specced. As good as the RX8 is (and it is very good), I've always wanted an Elise. Now I've changed jobs and I'm not driving as much everyday, I'm seriously considering selling the Mazda for a 111S. As regards sports exhausts, one word - Larini

People always talk about running the cars but they have already had the **** thrashed out of them in the first few miles of they life.
I used to work bringing new cars off the ships at hartlepool docks and every car that the workers get in just imediately gets abused until it is parked in the correct area. Engines blowing up isnt uncomon

Does the S2 still have the same repair costs in a crash? I remember the discussions that the S1 clamshell needed to be half rebuilt in all but the softest of front-enders.

BTW, bloody gorgeous car - I'm just asking tricky questions to see if I can fit it back on my wish list

Changing the subject slightly, is there a particular 'way' to get into an Elise?

I attempted to get in one once and gave up...and I'm only a 5'6'' short ****

If I bought an Elise it would have to have the Toyota engine, any car with the Rover K series engine is a big no no IMHO especially one which would cost nearly 30K. Still a brilliant little car though.

That colour you have chosen is one of the nicest on those car's...nice and aggressive without being too dark. Doesn't show the dirt much either!

With regards running in it seems to be quite common to the Honda VTEC's that gently run in cars will use barely a drop of oil between services whereas a car that was not put through a running in process can use up to half a litre for every 1000 miles! I know that it isn't the VTEC in yours but the running in process can't do an engine any harm and for the possible gains it has to be worth it!

Put one leg in, put your bum on the door sill, slide into the seat while bringing your other leg into the car. It is a piece of **** to get in with the roof off.

You can get a 'Lotus Booster' seat if you really need one, although it sounds stupid it is just a leather insert which raises you up a bit.

Can sympathise, just took delivery of an exige and have spent the last week racking up the miles ! It goes in for the first service tommorrow - after that its full throttle

From some early "throttle testing" looks like it will be well worth the wait!
