Just letting as many people as possible know to stay away from any fiesta rs turbos. I've had mine since feb and i've already had to buy a new gearbox, clutch, wishbones and ball joints, drive shafts and wheel bearings! DAMM FORDS!!!

Fiesta Turbo!! no bloody wonder..its as old as a conker tree and probably been round the block a few times too - like most of them.

They don't last forever you know

My XR3 was shagged when I sold it to its next unfortunate owner....that was 5 years ago, its still on the road, probably cost some poor sod a few grand to put right too! But seeing I sold it for half its market value...what did they expect?

Question

The only thing good with it is the body work?! It looks brand new no rust any where?! Is this the first rust proof ford?

Probably!

I know my cousin's Fiesta Si is going on the back arches and thats a newer car.

Surely at that age it must have seen a bodyshop or two though?

So you buy a 10/15 year old car and it needs lots of work doing. This would apply to ANY manufacturer then. So I guess you'll never buy any car again?

Anyway, I sympathise but you have to be more careful buying an old car. Did you make any checks or have an inspection at the time of purchase?

Although to be fair: lower arms/ball joint assemblies on them are only £25+labour a side and last about 6 to 7 years. Typically a wear and tear throw-away item.

Just be thankful the valve stem seals or piston rings didn't go. Which is not uncommon on CVH's

sounds about right. god i miss my rs turbo. i used to enjoy messing around with it on a sunday afternoon.

errr... strike that my scooby is faster and seems to have stayed in one piece far longer than my rs ever did. still wouldn't mind one as a project though.

I had 3 XR3i's, a MK3/MK4/MK5 before I got my cossie. I never had one problem with any of them, nor any rust problems either.

Hi Red

Come on a MK5 XR3 with no problems....not even the leaky front windscreen or the dodgy fuesebox? Almost all MK5 Escorts did that Then the zetec's sticky valves, the dodgy mtx75 syncros/baulking.........

Your one lucky lady if you didn't have any problems

Seriously I think the only problem I had with the 130psi Mk V was the stalk going on the steering wheel for lights, indicators etc. I had the car nearly 4 years too.

Yep I had the switch stalk break too = no side lights

Only after forking out £60 for a new one did I find out that the problem was a wire that runs up inside the stalk that had become disconnected

Did it ever startup on to 3 cylinders first thing on a cold day? I never managed to cured that one

Never noticed it doing it, I was rather sad to sell it as it was in excellent condition and had given me no trouble and I didn't know what to expect buying the cossie, but I hit lucky with that too, have had it 5 years next month and no significant problems at all, except destroying gearboxes on track.

They are good tho when you get them sorted,i had mine 5 years and had 3 turbos,3 clutches,a new gearbox,2 engine rebuilds oh and a new engine just before i sold it! It was running 197bhp and did the 1/4 mile in 14.52. Glad i bought the scooby tho,had it 2 years and all its cost me is a set of tyres!

So your basing you're entire car buying philosophy on you're experiences with a 15 year old, thrashed and bashed example? It's not like they build them like that at the factory, you know

Old car, expect parts to be worn out, my Pug is an 8 year old car, it cost me a 1450 quid with 38k on the clock, fsh, but still the heater matrix went, plus i needed 4 new tyres as the original NCT2's were looking a bit cracked!
Dont expect an old car to be in good condition, especially a hot hatch, very rare to find one thats been loved by one owner, most have had boy racer owners who rag them from cold and dont service them.
