So who's going to test drive a Vectra GSi 3.2 then?

After a certain person from the constabulary clocked a certified 159mph in one, it could be a real Q-car if you get an ex-fleet job

Never been a fan of Vauxhalls. Owned 2, both reasonable cars - but even a 3.2 V6 capeable of 159 wouldn't tempt me. However i don't doubt a cheapy could be picked up and performance / pound would make it worthy.

159 mph from only 211 bhp means quite an arodynamic car!
"3.2 litre V6 /211 PS. The 3.2 litre V6 is the biggest engine ever fitted into a Vectra in the UK. Maximum engine torque is 300Nm @ 4000rpm, while 0- 60mph takes only 7.0 seconds. Top speed for Vectras fitted with the 3.2 V6 is 155mph."

I have chance of driving one quite often (thru work) and have done.... they are nicer than their badge suggests... its well put together indeed. The performance is ok... I expected it to be better (as its a 3.2) but once moving the thing goes like a train.... but its standing starts is better than most its comparable rivals.... A4/Mondeo/X-Type etc... you can pick a decent one up these days for about £10K but, I don't think they are the best things to spend £10K on.

that's a crap 0-60, the thing must be heavy or have poor traction or both.

Not driven the Vectra but recently drove the new Mondeo 204ps 3.0V6 that's just replaced the 2.5 in the manual versions of the GhiaX and new TitaniumX.
Supposed to be good for over 150mph and it felt it.
Thing is the Mondeo has always felt good to drive and I've never driven a Vectra that has.
I would happily give up the Vectra's little extra top speed for the feel of a Mondeo.
That's if I was intending to buy a repmobile V6 of course.
Cheers

Could get an ST220, which has about 224PS and a 6-speed box. Should at least match the Vectra's performance, handle better and the 4-door variant is far better looking.
The current model vectra looks like a turd and vauxhall know it, they have a facelift waiting in the wings due out soon.

I would like one as a road car. Vauxhalls, nothing thrilling but on the flipside there is nothing about them that annoys me - they're good honest cars with very good quality build. Quiet, fast, reliable and refined mile muncher that does everything it says on the tin.

It's down to gearing (high) and I would presume the police would have the 'de-restricted').
Traffic cars do tend to have uprated brakes top of the range engines, however with all the equipment they have to lug around they are VERY heavy (and i'm not refering to the fat b@rstards driving them..!).
I remember an old 'old bill' once telling me about a certain fast response car they used in the 70's.... Austin Princess....! They were so bad they needed to put a bag of cement in the boot to help keep to rear in line...!

I read an article in Total Vauxhall a few years ago about police Omega's. Theres a firm that modifys them especially for the police. Courtney Sport were responsible for the engine upgrades.

Courtney are a tuning company that specialize in Vauxhalls of all shape and form. I know that they used to uprate the Omega's for the Police to look after royalty, goverment officials and general battering down the motorway chasing the bad guys.
MSD where involved the the Vectra B 95-02 I think. They got 500 2.5 and later 2.6 SRi's and put uprated cams, lower uprated springs, special recaro interior, uprated brakes (310m) stainless steel Magnex Back box, body upgrades and alloys. There where a number of other things they did to the car that I can't remember. These upgrades improved the whole driving experience of the car, and made it a better package than the SRi's. Also the fact that they where only a limited run, maintained to an extent a certain exclusivity.

Speaking to a local traffic cop he reckoned the T5's and Scoobs were standard but the unmarked Skoda Octavia vRS's were modified and could pull 160mph+.
Never mention the Vauxhalls though, to be honest I've not seen the Notts police use many Vectra's.
Cheers

Just searching through ebay
Came across this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW
Seems rather cheap at the moment, and not long too go!
