King Koenigsegg Claims Its Top-speed Crown
"It's official... sales of the world's fastest production car, the Koenigsegg CCR have gathered pace, too. A spokesman for the Swedish car maker said: "Our turnover has trebled since the Guinness Book of Records confirmed the record-breaking run." The CCR was clocked at 241mph at the Nardo proving ground in Italy, beating the unofficial record of 231mph set by the McLaren F1 at the same circuit in the Nineties.
Test driver Loris Bicocchi, who was behind the wheel for the high-speed run, said: "This test was very important for the customers and owners of Koenigsegg cars. It proves their belief and faith in the small company is well founded."
The Koenigsegg managed the top speed thanks to its sleek aerodynamic shape and supercharged 4.7-litre V8, which delivers 806bhp and 920Nm of torque. All this performance comes at a price, though - the CCR starts at an eye-watering £407,000."

I reckon that new Bugatti with 1001bhp will be the fastest car in the world before long.
But I do agree, The old Macca is still my fav, and I think that for all round ability on a circuit per chance, I think that the Macca would run rings around the Konnisegg thingy!!

simply way beyond any performance envelope previously avaialble in a road car.. so i suppose full tilt out of a corner with that BM lump at full chat could get a little edgy!

I actually know a guy who owns a Maclaren F1 and he told me that he thought a GT3 would lap the ring quicker than the F1 due to tyre technology and suspension technology.

the f1 is still in my and seems like everyone elses opinion pretty much the fastest car ever. ok, in a straight the koenigsigg may beat it.
if you have ever seen the videos of tiff and other racing drivers in the f1 you will see what it can really do.
and when you think that was ten years ago and they have only just beaten it, not a huge achievement really.
and the f1 has by the far and away the best sound and that air brake too. where as the koenigsegg bloke reminds me of chunk from the Goonies.

So non of you have ever heard a konigsegg on full chat in the flesh?? It's the most incredible noise imaginable and i for one would much prefer to have one over a macca. Far better looking too!!
Not taking anything away from the F1 because it was an amazing piece of kit and way way ahead of it's time. But advances in technology have made the modern hypercar a better all round package!
IMHO of course

Another record which did stand for some time. Admittedly, an Ultima did the 0-100-0 in 10.3 a year or so back (I do have the in-car footage). Wouldn't be surprised to see that comfortably beet a Koenisgsegg round a circuit as well.
It is definitely the case that even now, the F1 is considered by pretty much everyone as still being the car to beat. I've still never seen anything convincingly beat one in a head-head test, Carrera GTs, Enzo's etc included. Unfortunately, I have neither the talent nor the opportunity to try one or all of them at their limit, so I'll have to stick to speculation - like almost everyone else on here is.

Check out the Z cars Ultima!! JESUS!!!!
"Perhaps a few comparisons will help
Ultima themselves have just equalled the world record of 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds which was set by Chris Allanson on 5th November 2002 at Bruntingthorpe in the Tiger Z 100 WR.
However they went on to set the 0 to 100 to 0 world record which is the industry bench mark for performance cars at 10.3 seconds taking nearly a second off the previous best set by McLarens F1 road car.
They can be justifiably proud of that fact especially when the Ultima costs much less than the McLaren.
The Ultima weighs 990 kilos with power at 640 bhp giving a power to weight ratio of 646 bhp per tonne
Our twin engined car weighs 980 kilos fully built with all fuel water etc on board, the engines give 1000 bhp which equates to a power to weight ratio of 1020 bhp per tonne
This has to be the most powerful road going car in the world plus it has the traction to put this sort of power down to the ground"
