Default Civic Type R questions

I have just bought a brand new CTR and have a few questions for anybody who has also owned one from new or someone who knows the cars well.

Firstly is running the car in, how many miles are recommended?

Also what oil is put in the engines from new/in the factory? I ask this because I have a leaflet in the starter pack that recommends Castrol SLX LongTec 0W-30 and this is a synthetic oil if I'm right? I thought that new engines are normally run on a mineral oil for the first 1000 miles or for running in purposes.

Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

600 miles.

Ask your garage what oil they put in it, as it seems to vary. Supposed to go to the first service(12000 miles) before changing the oil.

About the same to 0-60 realistically (Find me someone who can replicate the quoted 5.7 ek9 time with consistency...), CTR does pip it to 100mph and above.

Track work, ek9 is slightly quicker. Wonder if a JDM ep3 would be quicker though with the extra 20bhp and lsd...

The right forum might be a good start...

100 km which is 625 miles, read the handbook!

God no... 0W30 is totally wrong, only Ford use that stuff!?

Honda recommend 10W40 semi-synth, should have that in from new and mine ran on that all the time, some people change to 5W40 synth after the first service.

It's not really...

The EK9 is slightly quicker 0-60 but the EP3 is quicker 0-100 and top end.

The standard Bridgestones are reasonable enough in the dry, but you'll soon find out how p1sh they are in the wet once worn. Replaced mine with a set of Yokohama Parada Spec 2's - seems like my wheels are actually making contact with the ground again now instead of doing a lovely catherine wheel impersonation every time I blow more than a limp f@rt at the accelerator

Lol

When they leave the production line here in Swindon, they are taken cold round a track bouncing off the red line in every gear before parked up and waiting for transport. I'm sure the next 1000 miles are not such a big concern.

FYI Honda take an engine randomly from production and run it for 24 hours at max revs to make sure it doesn't break.

I doubt that very much mate!

If the engine is cold the ECU does'nt allow the engine to rev over 5500rpm

I thought the ECU just stopped the vtec kicking-in when cold, can still hit the redline.

Thats what the old vtec system did anyway, dunno if the CTR is different but I doubt it.

When I traded in my CTR 2 years ago, my spirited drive to the dealers started from my driveway I don't remember it reving any less.
This was Probably the fastest I ever drove it as well, the exhaust was ticking as I parked up next to my new scoob

They are made here in Swindon, just letting you know what some of my mates tell me about what the procedures are.

Exactly the same procedure that the guys in Japan use when the impreza's run off the production line. Good to know car companies and their employees are the same the world over.

Yep you never know whats happened in the start of a new life of a car.

Ive heard that cars have even been damaged and repaired before they get to the main dealers

Tis true. A mate of mine is one of the supervisors/managers in this section at Honda. Anything that is poorly fitted, badly sprayed, dinged etc gets taken off the line at the end and repaired.

My neighbour used to do the windscreen, seats and dashboard repairs but they do it all in house now. Used to be quite an earner at £100 per car.
