Default Will I fit into a Caterham?

Hi

I’ve had a track day experience thing bought for me and have just got round to redeeming the voucher.

The event which I want to take part in is the Caterham, however the height restriction is 6ft 2 and I happen to be a touch over 6ft 4.

The car has a 4point harness.

Will I fit in or are Caterhams notoriously tight fitting.

Depends on your build (long leg/short leg/long body etc.).

I'm the same height as you and I managed to get into one (somehow) but could barely move the steering wheel as it was wedged up against my leg. I fit in the Caterham SV OK as well as my westfield. These have an inch or two more room and this makes all the difference. However, it's unlikey they are running any SV's. Are you anywhere near Caterham itself, may be worth sitting in one to find out if you fit.

Right thanks,

Good idea with regards to sitting in one beforehand, however its not sounding like there will be enough room for me.

Company that is running it will not offer a refund either, the only other experience is the Rally one, which I have been told is not particularly good.

I am 6ft 3 and have long legs and muscular thighs. I managed to fit in to a Caterham with a bit of a squeeze last year. The steering wheel was close to my thighs, but I was still able to drive the car fine and it didn't slow me down any.

The main problem I had is that I had to drive in my socks as the trainers/shoes were too big for the pedals. This wasn't a problem, but something you might want to think about. I have size 13 feet FYI.

I have done a Caterham day and the cars had the full FIA roll cage. I am 5ft 9 and with
a helmet on i was just about touching the diagonal bar on the "roof" of the roll cage, so it is definately worth making sure you fit.

Is it hard to hit to the right pedals in a Caterham with size 12s then ?

I found that my very wide size 12 feet were almost too big to drive a 206 I had as a hire car once, I kept hitting the accelerator each time I wanted to touch the brake

It was no fun, I have not had this problem before with any other car and I was kind of hoping that Caterhams/Westies would be ok. Anyone put my mind at rest ?

I'm 6.4 with size 12's. Standard size caterham will be a bit of a bugger with the pedals.

Fine on the Cat SV or Westie (wide bodied which most from the last 10 years are) although DM's aren't advisable!! I use my all stars or small shoes. All stars are good coz you can wear them normally (driving boots will look daft anywhere outside the car ) and they give good feel of what's going on etc.

i did have a problem in single seaters(formula 1st style) where my feet covered both clutch'n'accel. It resulted in lots of stalling

i use the side of my foot...not at all safe i know, twisting my foot at 90degress...

i even have to do this in our large mondeo which has a crappy pedal layout

The problem is you haven't got much in the way of room to twist your feet in the narrower caterhams, obviously you can't do it with big boots on either. I know one or two "normal" sized people (size 8 or 9 feet) who own sevens, and still find they have to be a little bit chosy about what footwear they use for driving them.
