Default Best VAG car?

Hey guys just looking for some opinions regarding which VAG car you would go for as I'm looking to change to something more comfortable at cruising than my civic type r.

Ideally I would be looking at oil burners and I have been looking at the A3 and mk5 Golf TDi 140's. My mate also suggested an A4 130 but don't really fancy a saloon at the mo.

I can't think of much more except for the Seat Cupra's.

Cheers

LCR with £500 remap.

275bhp/290lbft going through the front wheels.

S3 with £500 remap.

275bhp/290lbft if you prefer it through all 4 wheels.

If your after an oil burner the VW TDI 150 is good and again can be remapped to very good results.

Octavias handle fairly well, so I'm led to believe.

What about a mint Mk 2 Gti? Get a good one and I'm sure it'll only start to appreciate.

lol thx for the suggestion guys, I'm probably going to end up with an oil burner as I hate filling up my current car. Plus a remap should make it slightly more fun to drive.

I'm torn between the mk4 150 and the new A3/mk5 140's.

cheers

The Mk1 Octavia has always slaughtered other VAG products for reliability and customer satisfaction. The MK2 Octavia has just won What Cars best family car for 2005 and came second overall ( I think the new Disco won).
The new Octavia is available with the new 2.0 TDi engine but it's not as economical or as tunable (yet) as the older 1.9.

Cheers

Right, bought the car in November, it's the wife's car but I use it on business as the Evo is slightly thirsty. Replaced a 3 year old Scenic as I neded something that I'd actually want to drive otherwise the Evo would get stupid miles put on it. The plan is to put the money I used from saving back in inside one year, get one year's free motoring and then trade it at 40-45000 miles at around 10-12k

I've done 4000 miles(gulp) so far and the average is around 42 which includes all manor of driving urban/mixed/motorway/Autobahn . However on a run on A roads and maybe a small blast on a motorway, it will return 50-52 all day. My current trip to Coventry and back 132 miles round trip, I can do 4 days to one tank at £40 ish.

No rattles, very well put together, very pleased.

Well thanks for your input mate, appreciate that. I'm actually torn between the A3 and Golf now, there are merits with both but I'm stuck on which one.

The A3 is slightly more stylish in my opinion, but I prefer the Golfs dash and blue lights I think that is awesome. Other than that their pretty much the same car isn't it mate?

I bought the Mk 5 Golf 1.9 TDi 105 PS in April. I got it 'chipped/remapped whatever' by Superchips Free of charge as they had not seen that particular new ECU in the Mk 5. So they got the map from my car to re sell and I got 143 bhp FOC.

If you look here http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/golfmk5tdi105bhp.pdf this is the Power and Torque graph of my car on the superchips web page.

You will notice that the 105 bhp engine actually was putting out 118 bhp to start with. I was told this is common on VAG cars. The car now revs a little further up the range and has very healthy midrange punch. Along with a nice set of 19" Audi RS6 Alloys this "tractor" engined Golf is keeping me quite happy. And I am not filling up in the cold as many time as I did in the Scooby.

Can't comment on any other VAG cars but I've got an A3 Tdi sport which replaced a 250BHP Bugeye Scooby.

I'm impressed/shocked at the way this tractor goes! Handling is superb IMO and has returned 43 MPG over 5K miles and I rag the absolute **** off it.

Very nice place to sit and it's doing a good job of getting me back in a decent petrol car in the future as the running costs are buttons!

Had a look round one the other week. Keep mistaking them for a Toyota Corolla.... Very claustrophobic inside as well.... There again, it was in the dark anyway....
