Unhappy help ! need suggestions to replace the scoob with

having written off the scoob i need another car. the frequent servicing of a turbo car and the service costs are steering me away from another. that and lack of toys, questionable build quality.

i need suggestions based on the following as i'm completely stumped. so far a 2.5 mondeo ghia-x is lookin ok but not exactly inspirin and like hens teeth seemingly:-

- 4 door family sized car
- non turbo
- not sluggish
- no earlier than 2001
- max budget of 10k
- ideally cheaper to insure/run/service than the scoob
- ideally with some toys
- less than 50k on the clock

all suggestions very welcome

cheers

Octavia vRS. Good car for the cash. My mates is a very nice motor indeed. It's basically an Audi anyway.

if you do consider a vRS even though it is a turbo, i'd definatly look at the leon cupra. much better looking than then vRS. They handle just about the same but if you can push to a cupra R you will certainly notice the difference.

Estate vRS's are 4 wheel drive but i still dont think they are as good as the leon.

a 400 or so quid chip upgrade takes both the vRS and the cupra up to around 220bhp or the cupra R up to around 280 bhp and 300 lb/ft of tourqe

I thought that aswell but hes wanting 2001 or newer. I was looking on auto trader site and there were a few 328s with low miles infact a blinding 328 sport coupe with 30k on the clock and looked spotless but he wants 4 doors

how about an ST200 202bhp, last of 'em was '01Y, took 1 in p/ex not long ago, nice drive, plenty of torque, not exactly that quick but ok?, should get a low miler for between £6-8k, good spec.

Mitsitibishi Galant V6, you could get a very low mileage example with all the toys for a surprisingly bargain price

What about a Mitsubishi Galant V6 sport which is non turbo and has some toys. Nice car well within budget and fairly rare aggressive styling. Or go for the Elegance instead of the sport and you get leather as standard.

Just sold my estate version @ £6500 - 2001 Y reg 43K mls so there good value. or the Vr4 version same engine but twin turbo & 4x4 276bhp - rare as hens teeth though.

Oops type to slow some one beat me to it!!

What about a Pug 406 3ltr V6 ? Or new shape Laguna 3ltr V6 ?. Both are fully loaded, fast & can be had for < 10K

Do a little homework

The Octy RS is FWD... regardless of hatch or estate.

The Octy 4x4turbo is 4wd... regardless of hatch or estate.

Both 1.8T with around 220bhp once remapped, RS starts with 180, 4x4 with 150.

I won't give my opinion on Leon Vs Octavia as it's biased

has to be the Accord Type R, would be my first choice big time, such an excellent package for the purchase and servicing costs

Toyota Altezza RS200

Have you considered diesel?

Most of the 1.9PD VAG cars have very decent performance, good economy, low insurance and many have variable servicing which allows 30000miles or two years between servicing.
A 30bhp increase is only a cheap tuning box away and the 130bhp version will do an easy 180bhp and 300lbft after a £400 remap.

Should be able to pick a decent Octavia for your budget and Elegance trim will give Climate, multi CD, electric windows, mirrors and sunroof, fuel computer, abs, mba, asr, edl, fully adustable driver and passenger seats, headlamp wash, 16" alloys, etc. etc.

Cheers
Lee
