Jaguar Advanced Lightweight Coupe
New Jaguar Sports Coupe wows crowd

Bounding into the arena as the highlight of the Monday press conference, the new Jag upstaged exciting new cars from sister companies Land-Rover and Volvo to wow the world’s motoring press at their world premiere. Jaguar spokespeople have been markedly tight-lipped about the new car, and though they still won’t confirm that this car will enter production in 2006, it would be astonishing if it did not – and even a quick glance at the car reveals that it is to all intents and purposes a totally complete product.

“I firmly believe that Jaguars should appear powerful as well as elegant” commented Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum. “This car embraces our sports car heritage, and embodies a new generation of Jaguar cars.” It has “elegant flowing lines; a finely honed appearance with nothing superfluous”, he added. Taut body architecture gives it a strong sense of visual energy. “It is muscular without being over the top - a naturally honed athlete.

Clearly echoing famous Jaguar sports cars of the past, the new car is far more than retro. Spare but stunning, it’s a characteristically powerful feline form, with finely balanced proportions, from a long sinuous hood, through a smoothly tapered roofline to its strong muscular haunches. Notable details include the broad oval grille, chainlink centralized tailpipe, teardrop shaped rear light fittings with inset circular tail lights, a thin silver strip across the tail bearing the legend JAGUAR, and vertical air vents set forward of the doors.

“[The] interior is clean, simple and straightforward”, said Mr Callum. “There is an honesty about this car’s interior which I really like.” Trimmed in tan leather and dimpled aluminium, the 2+2 cabin has an uncluttered look with Jaguar’s trademark circular instrument dials with small letters, J-gate shifter and a center mounted vehicle information console for control of climate, entertainment and navigational equipment.
There’s reasonable luggage space for a coupe behind a full-height tailgate, even lending a measure of practicality. The aluminium construction gives the car a bodyshell 40% lighter and 60% stiffer than conventional steel architecture. The stiffness and precision that the technologies developed for the new XJ offer great benefits in a pure sports car. “The next generation of Jaguar cars will be remarkable drivers’ cars” Jaguar’s Director of Product Engineering, Phil Hodgkinson, has said.

Fitted with a V8 engine, the car is claimed to be capable of 0-60 mph in under five seconds, and a maximum speed exceeding 180 mph. It will also benefit from Jaguars CATS system (Computer Active Technology Suspension), Adaptive Cruise Control, and Active Restraint Technology System. Jaguar may have had a troubled year in 2004 with the announcement of the ending of car production at its Coventry home and its withdrawal from Formula 1, but if it can continue to produce cars as desirable as this at the right price, its future really will be rosy.Fitted with a V8 engine, the car is claimed to be capable of 0-60 mph in under five seconds, and a maximum speed exceeding 180 mph. I guess someone will come along and say ''did you type this yourself, or did you just copy and paste it?'' then they'll say, ''oh, here's the link from where he nicked the info''.

I really like the look of it, has an air of "leaping cat" about it. Is it based on the same platform as the AMV8? (The XK8 and DB7 shared a floorpan IIRC).
Schuey, I have to apologise but I don't fully understand your cryptic explaination at the bottom of your post (too early in the morning
) however I would guess that you are the author of the article. Would probably be best if you just credited yourself at the end of your post, along with a short note about your copyright. Just saves confusion
Cheers,
Alex

Looks pretty good, Bit DB9 / Bentely GT on the rear quarters. Bonnet is straight off an XK8 or XJS
But the grill doesn't suit the headlamps (what is it with jag and grills?)- needs one or the other...sharp headlamps and sharp grill or round headlamps and roundish grill, not a mish mash of both.
I swear those headlamps are nicked off an American Ford (can't quite place them though).
And it's still has the nasty high bonnet shutline across the front like the XK8, which spoil the flow of the lines. no doubt crash/pedestrian safety and cutting manufacture costs has alot to answer for.
(but I'm highly critical...I think that the points on the 5-series BMW kidney grille not matching to the bonnet creases is a big **** up
