Default Nissan 350 or STi?

As I may be getting promoted this year, I'm planning on getting a new car to celebrate. I'm thinking of spending about 25k on the car and have narrowed it down to a new STi or a Nissan 350. Has anyone driven or owned a 350? If so, what's your view on the car?

350 is an awesome car...looks the part, great sounding engine and very good handling...

not to mention, the build quality is first class

a proper sports car being a 2 seater

If you have a family, the STi will be more practical.
Though i do like the 350, they are quite retro inside

No brainer mate as far as I'm concerned. I'd go STI everytime.

I'd go 350 every time.

Far better looking IMO, far more exclusive and it won't hurt your pocket nearly so much when you come to get rid of it.

350s are in demand and always will be.

Early 993. You'll lose next to nothing over 5 years, as quick as either.
I've seen a LHD 996 for 25k If you can live with a left hooker (I couldn't) it's quicker than either.

Between the 350Z and the STi, I'd go for the 350Z. Well actually I'd go for a used Spec C for 20-25k, it's quicker than the lot!

I would have purchased a 350Z if i could afford an impractical 2 seater. Went to look at them and they are very nice indeed. Finally purchased an STI PPP. Very happy with it. Like both. Down to your situation and whether a 2 seater is ok for your everyday life.

Only problem with an STI is the depreciation. I bought a 53 plate (Nov 2003) with PPP for 20k. 8k less than new. Thats was from a subaru garage.

Good luck and both will be a good choice!

Thanks for the replies - Still having trouble deciding though! One plus in favour of the 350 is I wouldn't have the ridiculous paranoia / security concerns as I do with a Subaru.

A 350Z isnt exactly quick is it? Despite looking OK. Barely quicker than a 1970's 260Z ffs

Blimey.... asking members of Scoobynet whether to buy any car other than an STI

And some of them say the 350z

Cant say i liked the 350z. Now the new STI with the DCCD etc.... apart from the security issues - you could PPP it and i defy anyone to say its not a more practical, quicker and better handling car.

Do you need a coupe? If not .... STI all the way

Yes you will. No difference IMHO, mate has a 350Z and is just like that with it, as are the folks on his forum (www.350zuk.com)

My 350z is 3 weeks old today :

Also a bit more discussion on it here :

You would not regret buying a 350z over a new Subaru - I know I haven't

If you don't think the 350z is quick, you haven't driven one on the road in real world conditions. Better car than the Scoob in many respects. Doesn't mean I'd swap one for the other though.

I've just sold mt V5 V-lim after a 5 year love afair and bought a gunmetal 350Z

Pluses

Finally got a car the girls like!
Build quality is superb
Manufacturers warranty
Looks awesome
No more "Chav" / "Kev" / "Boy Rcer" comments from friends (try explaining the V-lim isn't a 'normal' car)
Handling is more fun - easier to exploit on SE roads!
Nicer place to be!
Gorgeous engine

Minus

Totally impractical! No boot etc
18mpg round town
None of the exhilaration of an Sti
No Scooby warble!

Overall, it was the right choice for me - loved the sscoob but the image has changed (any maybe i've grown up a bit!) and the 350Z is just right for me - at the moment.

Bet i don't stay in love withit for 5 years tho...

Well having owned a fast scooby I test drove both the new Sti and 350z. The looks and drive of the 350z swung it for me. It was so much fun on a wet road even with the traction control on. I would be happy to bet it will match the Sti on accleration too once its rolling.

Down side for me is its not a Scoob and I love them, not got the same exhaust note, although without an aftermarket addition the Sti did not light my fire either.

I'd be happy with either, but chose the 350Z

350 if it was me.

Just as fast too once rolling, but if that mattered then you'd be looking at a caterham
