It was a J plate Jap import. Had an induction kit and full stainless exhaust on it from Japan, as well as a nice front splitter and side skirts. The 4WS made handling superb. The engine was a dream and it went like stink. It felt smaller and more nimble than it was. Can't really find fault with the car at all. Quality was as good as any of the BMW's I've owned.
Never had a 306 but my brother has a 306 XSi. Nice car but miles behind the Prelude with regards to quality.

I got taken at about 80 in my UK scoob, by a 2.2 VTEC. I was impressed (not happy at the time) I was pushing as hard as I could too, and he crept past...

My friend has got a Jap 2.2 VTEC Prelude.. Its very quick, once going 3rd gear onwards, it will easily pull on my 175bhp Civic VTi.
When up to the wrong side of the speedo it is very quick indeed, to 112 anyway, be interesting to see how it goes once that restrictor is taken off!!
Cheers,
Grant

Looks like a Prelude is a pretty good car then and dare i say it almost if not as quick as a (standard) Scooby in terms of performance and handling!

Last year I test drove:
200SX S13
Celica GT4 (ST185)
Prelude 2.2 VTEC (1992)
I drove all of these pretty much on the same day and by far the best two were the 200sx and the prelude.
As you can imagine they handled quite differently but it was the vtec prelude that put the biggest smile on my face. The 200sx on boost was quick and I'm all for the a**e out fun on wet roundabouts etc but it was just the great all over drive of the vtec that won me over....I ended up buying a Saab 9000 2.3 Turbo but thats because my car criteria changed. If it hadnt though i would have bought the prelude no question.
Sorry this isnt helping much as I havnt driven the peugeot so cant comment directly but out of other similar priced quick jap cars the prelude vtec was great. IMHO.
Even a mate of mine who has an Integra Type R is impressed with them.

i had one
they're the shiznit
the non 4ws on especially (BB2) no cruise, ABS or sunroof
Light, fast, better handling than a scoob just less grip.
You can spin the front wheels in 3rd on wet days.
I love mine and now my mrs loves it
4th gen is the one to go for.
Car and Driver (not that they know much) said it was the best handling FWD car in the world. The engine also won a best engine award one year
Never had a Pug but everyone I've ever known who's had one has loved it and they handle beatifully. Dare I say a little slow though (unless in the hands of gutman)

I had a stock V-reg 2.2 VTi before my Scoob. Active 4WS, 200PS. Nice car, well equipped, well planted. Duelled with a Turbo Scoob once and lost. The Scoob was quicker away from rest - the Scoob turbo kicks in at - what - 2500 RPM? - the Honda's VTEC at 5500, so the Scoob has the advantage. But there wasn't much in it.
Scoob has more grip and the performance is a bit more usable. Honda has a better kick in the @rse and engine note, when the VTEC comes on song. Haven't driven the Pug.

Yep not pleasant however the <'95 cars are excellent.
You have to see them to appreciate them. Quality is as good as any German counterpart and they drive soooo well.
Pre '95 Preludes are the dogs bollox.
Top, TOP motor cars.

Lets not forget how good the 306 is. It might not have the longevity and quality feel of the honda, its probably more likely to break (esp cambelt), but its more adjustable and, dare I say, fun to drive than a std scooby.
I would argue, for an average driver its better than the 205 - you can swing the back around without visiting fields too often.
The Hondas a good car, but the 306 was a great car in its day.

lovely engine, great build quality, great fuel economy and low maintenance for a sports car. not to mention the 5th gens are also very practical.
i like the 4rth gens....just look very dated now.
btw: i sold my 5th gen. thats a pic from the past.
