I was in the scoob and to be fair they are identical .... so there is no reason for the bugger to not knock 15 seconds off his ring times.

Will the scoob be that fast when its 14 years old though, thats the question?

did you do any rolling starts from say 60mph?

It was about 60....3rd gear stuff.

Just does not feel as quick, but this maybe to do with the gearing I guess.

To be fair Craig we had a few miles of playing mostly from about 60MPH or so and there is nowt in it anywhere. I was impressed with the porker I must say.

We did a couple of standing starts after for fun 0-60 stuff. The scoob pulled away but that wasnt suprising as it was very wet out ......

I think I had to use 2nd at one point.....far too much lag to use 3rd.....but 2nd had problems as it was so wet.

With the 6 speed box, Gary is always on the bubble.

The only other comparsion we have is round the 'ring'. We both have pretty good knowledge there and there is about 10-15 seconds seperating us. I think that will change next year though and all will be equal.
The scoob is ok as a rally car but it aint really a circuit racer.

The best ring lap for a STANDARD 250bhp 944turbo is 8min 32sec. Should give you something to aim for.

I have seen a BTG lap that is about 8.20 with a huge moment at Plantzgarden. I imagine the 8.32 lap you quote is a full lap with would be about an 8.07 BTG

Yes the 8.32 is a full lap NOT BTC and with a totally standard 944turbo. I have the details somewhere.

Senior it was in absolutely A1 tip top first class condition. Could have eaten ya dinner off the engine (although i couldnt find it under the bonnet) or done ya tie up in the bodywork reflection........

In the end, it all comes down to how far you're willing to push it, doesn't it? Dave has a mint 944, that at nearly 15 years old, can hold it's own against a 3xxhp STaaiiiii (granted the scoob is weighed down by fluffy toys, dangly things, stickers and stick on bits ) - that's pretty impressive by todays standards.

So you 2 are quibbling about knocking a few secs off a mid 8 min time (after 100s of laps), yet you expect me/us to get under 9 minutes on our 1st visit.

03 STI ...1470kg & 329bhp gives you 223

...& minus a bit of tranny loss in there, say 17% for RWD & 22% for AWD ...& hey presto you're both making 176 paw/ton! ...ill get my coat/anorak!

Getting a sub 10 on your first trip is good. I never thought I'd do it - I did though, just.

It's not cool being too fast too quick, has a habit of catching you out.....

I'm aiming to be doing 9 mins flat by end of next summer. Should have done about 50 laps by then.

The lap in the 944 was done on a completely clear track you prob dont get that very often.

With a 330bhp or so 944 like mine, i would think that another 20-30sec could be cut off the time. After all thats what the car is made for, i dont fancy its chances down a forest track mind.

That's funny Dave. I was at Bedford on Sat with Simo in his STi along with a v Nice Noble (another story) but the Porkers we raced were relatively easy meat I don't know what was going on as I expected the STi to be trounced. I've seen and been in Porkers that have been very impressive but not on Sat. I don't know if it was the driver level there or just that Simo's STi was going exceptionally well?

Perhaps when I've sorted my car out we'll all do a few laps at the 'ring and see what's what eh?

I think it's down to the age old p[roblem with scoobs - anyone can get in and go quickly. Not the same with Porkers, ie, chances are if you had a scoob and were quite quick, you'd get in a porker and be quite slow as they aren't so easy to drive.

We don't have too many problems with Porkers nowadays, despite having about half the power of an STaiiiiiiiii

The thing with Dave's car is it dont feel that quick. Yeah it feels quick but I must admit and Dave would say the same thing it didnt feel as quick as my STi. Now bear in mind my STi has 329BHP. Not the quickest in the world maybe but quicker than standard for sure. Its the gearing which makes the scoob feel so much quicker. The porker is very long geared making it feel very different.

Craig........With the ability of you and your car after 20 laps I would imagine you will be knocking on the door of 9 mins mate. I wouldnt say that about any other car though.

Craig, you could be right. The track temp was v cold so traction for them could have been a problem. I don't think it's right to say that anyone can go quickly in a scoob. Most people can drive them 85% and they are quite forgiving but get that last 15% and you'll obviously discover understeer and an ability to spin at the limit. Now 85% may be good enough to murder hot hatches but not porkers imo.

I'd say 95% floyd - but what's the spec of your friends STi? If it's near standard then the Porsches weren't being driven to their ability as any current/newish 911 is quicker on track than a stdish STi. I'd bet that a Boxster S would be as well.

I reckon we're only at 80% of the Westies ability - and that's quite hard work tbh

I would suggest that a well driven Porker will beat an STi any day of the week and will be driven home from the track without juddering brakes.
