Default Bought myself a Pug

I only want the engine the next question is does it go into a 309 or a 205?

My heart says 205 but after sqaushing my last one my head says a 309 would be the one and it handles a bit better as well

Just got to get it home and whip the engine out and strip it down

309 would be my choice, mainly 'cos I'm a god-awful driver and would prefer the "security" of the marginally longer wheelbase.

Its going to be a track day car, the head is comming off the Mi for some work I think I have some piper cams in my shed from my old car as well, while every thing is in bits i'll lighten the flywheel because the Mi ones are really heavy and uprate the oil pump as well.

When funds permit it'll go onto throttle boddies

For a trackday car, I'd go with the 309. Way more predictable than the 205, I imagine that's why the circuit driving schools used them in preference. As its not a competitive tool, I'd say that the marginal extra weight won't make a lot of difference.

Hiya Sammy!
Welcome to the world of pug ownership
Ive had my 306 (3rd one, 5th in total) for a couple of months now, unfortunately my wipers stopped working yesterday, everything else runs fine, but found the problem to be due to about 4 inches of water as the drain plug was covered/bunged up..... DOH!!!
Normally no real problems so you should have a nice life living with them

Isn't it just the 16v version of the 1.9 motor found in the both the 205 & 309?

Would have gone in either I would have thought but there was a 1.9 16v 309 available in Europe so it should go in a 309 no probs.

probably cheaper getting 309 parts than 205 parts as well to be honest.

The 205 was great after uprating the shocks and springs and using the thicker torsion bars, what I also did was leave the rear slightly higher than the front to aid traction.

With these mods done the famous 205 lift off over steer and backwards into hedge effect was significantly reduced

Until someone cliped me and spun me off the road things were great

The reason i'm thinking 309 is purely down to the fact that I had a 205 for a few months in the summer and no longer feel safe in it, it feels a bit too small maybe that would change with some proper seats to give me some more headroom.

What ever i go for I will end up with a cage in it though

Tony, I'm a big fan of 306 Gti's in fact it was the last car i had before I converted to Scoobs i've had 12 pugs so far the Mi is number 13 and the 205 or 309 will be 14 so i'm used to thier little quirks

At the moment i'm driving Litcho's 306 cab with paper bag over my head

So when we having our first Scoobynet Pug meet, now there's at least 10 of us?

Sammy - gotta be a 205 mate, plus being in the middle of stripping my Mi16 and adding an ECU/TB's, means I can offer any help required on wiring etc. The new ECU wiring loom is proving a royal pain in the ***.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Is there a decent magazine that deals with Peugeots' and any uprating you can do to them?

'Fast Pugs' sounds like a lap dog on speed

Performance GTi, Retro Cars, Practical Performance Cars all cover them now and then.

Next months PPC is doing a tuning guide to Pug 205's - the editor Will Holman registered on 205gtidrivers.com and asked us all a load of questions about tuning them. On sale 28th Nov apparently.

I had the Emerald kit on my last Mi but didn't fit them myself, I take it its a pita?

What about the mapping who's doing that for you?

I'll scan a pic of how my last 205 ended up and you'll see why i have reservations about another one

Its not too bad, but i'm no vehicle wiring expert. I've stripped the existing Mi loom wire by wire and mapped out where everything goes, so it was a case of just transferring that to the Emerald wiring diagram.

I'm combining it with Suzuki GSXR 750 40mm throttle bodies, so its things like making a new inlet manifold, and the IACV thats the pain.

I basically need a 406 twin coil pack, Corsa 16v plug leads, and a Rover 416 IACV for it all to work, hence its quite a job

Enjoyable though.

Re mapping, I have a BX 16v with TB map pre-loaded, so will see how that runs to begin with. After that, need to find a decent mapper up North.

Just have to hope I dont stuff it when its all finished, will have cost me £5000 by then

i'd definitely use a 205 mate, i've just built one as a road rally car, put a bias valve in it and it stops the back end coming out on lift off or you can adjust it to the back and it drives like a rear wheel drive then!!

If you can get a back issue the july/aug 04performance gti mag covered tuning of all the little french motors 205 being one of them. I too have been looking bloody bored with the scoob , its just starting to feel like another family saloon with a nice engine note
