Question Old Mondeo tail lights don't work

Any suggestions?

All fuses seem OK (no fuse is listed for tail lights anyway ), and apparently the earthing is fine as the bulb is a dual-use bulb with an extra filament for the rear fogs, which work.

Car is a P plate (1996?), last of the line old model.

Thanks

Brendan

Is it definately not the bulbs?
I had both my front headlights go within a week of eachother (original bulbs!) and one tail light go (the other is somewhat dimmer now so will need replacing soon).

Don't think so: pulled one of the bulbs out and it looked fine (unlike one of the brake lights, which was definitely blown).

Is yours a 1.6, 1.8 petrol, 1.8 turbo diesel, 2ltr or 2.5?

1.8 TD GLX.

New symptom: instrument illumination doesn't work either!

Thanks for looking Tony, but don't go to too much trouble: Dad's about to take it down to the friendly local mechanic. I just wondered if anyone could leap up and say "Ah yes, I had that exact problem with mine; what you need to do is tighten the front left wheel nuts", or some such

Cheers

Brendan

The connectors to the rear tail-lights can corrode quite badly. Worth giving them a check. I've previously had to replace the connectors due to them being so badly corroded.

edit- new sympton: does your front sidelights work? If not - it's your light switch.
