I was in a crash in one recently. After it we heard from previous MR2 owners that the weight doesn't shift forward during braking and that the back end is nervous when playing around. Best of luck if you get it. I'd never sit in one again!

I have been in 2 MR2's during crashes, both times the car stood up fantastically. The Mk3 flipped end over end on an M-Way when a tyre failed, not a scratch.
Never had a Mk 2 though

Mk1, they rot quite badly around the rear arches and the centre pistons overheat, due to lack of cooling, if it's pinking it's probably fooked...MK2, gearchange cables snap, anti roll bar drop links on both models ( and all Toyotas generally ) tend to knock loudly when they're on the way out, both models a pain in the **** on the brakes, especially in the wet, due to lack of weight over front end. Generally mega-reliable apart from the above.

Talking

Have ran mine for just over a year, not had any problems with reliability at all My advice is get a REV3 or over due to extensive improvements at the REV3 stage.

I have had a gt tbar for the three years, bent the wing in the first couple of weeks. But that was my own fault. Easy to drive and IMHO safe as houses, in fact my lass drives it and she has never even came clsoe to loosing it.

Rev 2 (dec 92) Or later model GTS, The T-Bar is a must, so good in the summer.

There's a lot of things could be iproved on but a very good car.

Personally would go for a rev 3 or after, revised handling and nicer looking imho.
