The guy you are referring to is Walter Rohrl - chief test driver for Porsche (ex World Rally Champ).

To make that look tame, I recommend this DVD from Renn TV. Uwe Alzen in a 700 bhp 996 The most amazing laps of the Ring you are likely to see.

I think it's actually Stefan Roser, not Walter Rohrl. The car's a Ruf CTR Yellow Bird, and the video is Faszination auf der Nurburgring.

I also have Derek Bell driving the 'ring in a Porsche 956 on DVD, which is pretty impressive. TBH, Le Mans in the 956 is actually more impressive (before the chicanes blighted it, taking the kink in the Mulsanne straight at 254 mph was something...)

I thought Stefan Belof (sp) held the record. I may be wrong though

Close. I think it's actually Jacky Ickx who was his team-mate in the Rothmans Porsche team. 6'12" IIRC.

6' 12"? Isn't that the same as 7 foot?

Thumbs up

The RUF video is a classic...and incredibly well driven.

But if you want to see something totally mad you need to take a look at the in-car Footage of the Radical SR3 Turbo doing its road legal record breaking attempt at the ring. Needless to say it now holds the record even though it was only given one lap in which to try (yes - this was the first attempt)

http://www.radicalmotorsport.com/gallery/ring2b.mpg
(its quite a large download but well worth it)

If you see one of these and fancy your chances - I would honestly forget it.

Ian.

There was a radical there at easter and it wasn't that quick when i saw it...... i would have had a go at it...... Its about the driver not the car.

7 min 19 sec.

Here is the original article.

I believe the driver was Phil Bennet. 160mph taken through the Schwedenkreuz corner is really going some.

http://www.radicalmotorsport.com/new...iefe/index.php

I've never driven the Nordschleife in real life - I don't think my nadgers are big enough to be honest - maybe sometime soon.

Phil bennet is also an ex Nurburgring 24 hour driver so he kinda knows his way around the place.

The article says 160mph through Schwedenkreuz corner but then below it say 2.1 G at 122MPH through the same corner. I assume it means 160mph on the straight coming up to the bend coz nothing would get round there at 160 MPH

That is quick at Schwalben schwanz though. My pug does 115mph through that section foot to the floor and I wouldnt wanna go alot quicker in anything i dont think.

No mate i didnt think you were in the slightest ...... The SR3 turbo is bloody awesome to say the least and cheers for pointing the article out. I have seen the video of the lap but not read the article.......

I dont know what the production bike record is but that has to be close to it.

It is also for a full lap which includes all off Dottinger Hohe. Most timed laps dont include that bit and its an extra 25-35 seconds.

If you could do 115mph round a bend, I'd imagine an SR3 could add 20-30mph on that.

500ish kg car with proper aero aids, even porker RSRs won't corner as fast.

I dont know what the production bike record is but that has to be close to it
Think it's about 7.55 isn't it? Bikes, even race ones don't fare too well at the 'Ring.

Doing those speeds sat on the floor through a left then gutting dropping downhill, into blind right left right you need ***** the size of water melons, not only to keep your nerve but as ballast to keep you on the road. I think that sorts the men out from the boys ..... Things must go past at fast forward pace at those speeds.

Cant remember where the vid is now but that boy can drive

9 mins 40 after 14 laps.

In time I'll be great, but for now I'llsettle for the accolade of "brave and crazy"

Cheers Davyboy!! A shout out to Gutmann to (fastest bloke in a Fwd I swear).

Here's to September!!!

Dave,

You may have an issue getting in - westfields are designed for normal height people, not those who've sat in a growbag for too long
