The annoying this is, punters will buy them in their droves - simply because 'it's a BMW'. Thereby perpetuating the problem.

<sigh>

I know it's depressing. Bit like the Alfa thing on Top Gear last night. Problem is people have preconceived ideas about cars and it takes a lot to change that.

Yup, plus the general populous believe everything they read and hear, for example :

1) The RS Focus has horrendous torque steer
2) 4X4 Offroaders are much safer in accidents
3) The new Golf GTi - a real drivers car
4) The new C2 GT - A 'Red Hot Rallybred supermini'
5) The BMW 1 series - Class leading Golf rival.

Actually,

1) No it doesn't, it has a quaife diff that requires a little driver involvement
2) Possibly in a 'head-on' or incident involving grass, but evasive manouvres ?
3) B*ll*cks !!!
4) 0-60 in 9.5 is NOT Red Hot
5) Class leader in daring but ugly maybe !!!

Oh well - just you and me then eh Chris ?

Well I stand to be corrected on the just announced all new Golf GTi with the 2.0T, but I was basing that on the 1.8T I drove not too long ago. You can't seriously believe that the outgoing GTi is a real drivers car can you ? A few years ago, I still had an original 1.6GTi - now that was a fun drive ! Far removed from the anaesthetised luke warm offerings of late.

I hope the all new GTi is a return to what started it all, but somehow I suspect it won't be.

I had a 1.6 GTi many moons ago 115 bhp engine with no power steering - first decent car I owned and the only one I have ever regretted selling. Oh for that level of feedback in the Scoob, but I guess you can't have everything.
