Views on using a nice car to commute???
Hi all,
Ive just taken a new job and it will involve a 60 mile a day commute, ok not the end of the world but I only do 5 at the moment!
I have a Honda S2000 at the moment, have about 5000 miles on the clock, I bought it brand new. Servicing is pretty cheap about 150quid or less every 9000 miles(1 year) and it isnt too bad on petrol or tyres(assuming I dont drive like a nutter which I wont).
My concern is that Im guessing Ill be doing about 15k a year inc commute and other stuff.
So should I flog it now. Or flog it in a years time with about 20k on the clock? Id like to have it for at least some of this summer so would sell June ish(after Ive been to LeMans)
Im tempted to just get on and drive it, but Im also keen to take the smallest depreciation hit I can and selling after 6 months ownership perhaps isnt good?
thanks
Andy

You've already lost more now in the 1st few months than you'll lose over the next 2 years possibly so I'd keep it. The car you replace it with will depreciate just as much (probably more!).
S2000's are strong so won't be affected much by mileage. If you are worried about the miles then buy a 2nd car (something old & cheap) and use that for the commute (apart from days where the weather is nice of course ).

Yup, buy a second car and run that if your worried about mileage
You can pick up a cheap fiesta/punto/escort/mondeo for around 1-1.5k that will chug you up and down motorways nicely and they are cheap to run and insure too

Work out extra cost of depreciation against cost of running a second car i.e. two lots of insurance/tax/service + Mot if over 3 years - it's all down to money in the end..
Like John - I prefer to have something fun to do the drudge like commuting

I'm with John, it's far more interesting and fun to take the Impreza to work and back. There's plenty of fantastic B-roads on the way home if I get really fed up with the motorway.
The only thing I'd change it for is a bike (and not the pedaling kind)

I went from living across the street to my place of work to a 60 mile round trip, the miles have piled on! Bought the car with 59k and did approx 10k in 2 years. Now had it three years and its got 85k on the clock.
