They run mainly on borrowed time.

Try the R5 GTT board, cant remember the URL, but still great little cars.

www.rtoc.co.uk find the FAQ.

they can run on optimax.

check for rust. around struts, tailgate, sills.

check for slipping clutch (expensive and pain to fix), worn turbo and head gasket.

830kg and 120bhp standard (easy and cheap 150bhp).

Yes they were originally designed to run on 4 Star, but they had hardened valve seats as standard so can run fine on unleaded, but you really need SUL, Optimax or Ultimate for the higher octane or they won't run well. Don't use LRP though!

The owners club is http://www.rtoc.org/ and you'll find a lot of info on there, including a buyers guide...

Get a GTti, more exclusive, just as tunable, and more advanced than the Renault given its age(the GTti has EFI and DOHC), mine loves to pull past 7500

Yep they run fine on Super unleaded/opticrap/Ultimate . You can get away with using normal unleaded if you're running standard boost, but for the sake of a few pence i'd stick with the "special brew"

Oh and definatly join rtoc.org. The best £10 you'll EVER spend on your 5

smashing cars, I own 2 at the minute, currently buy a scoob in the next week or 2 and tbh the 5 is much more fun all around car than the scoob.
