Seirra 340 bhp, 60 in 1st ?
A freind of mine reckons his new purchase seirra saphire 340 bhp will do 60 in 1st 90 in2nd and that he could blow my sti8 ppp away so i have laid down a challenge on an air strip but no reply yet. He does not believe that i had a go with a escort with genuin 350 bhp and that he could only just leave me on straight and he was braking when i was still accelerating into corners he was very unstable and that was before my ppp was fitted. I told him its not all about bhp its about power on and of, handling, brakes, etc but he wont have it.
Sorry but I think your friend smokes too much crack. I reckon to get 60 in 1st, he'd have to be at around 11,000 RPM (+ or - 10%). This is impossible (unless he has a second gearbox fitted... in which case I'm the idiot!!!)

60mph in 1st...only cars I know that do that are automatics.
(excepting silly fast kit car fiberglass jobbies etc)
So either it's an auto or it's got stupidly tall diff ratios. Which is pointless and would smoke clutches on a weekly basis every time you need to pull away

Complete bollox
unless he's got a bespoke box (or diff) with stupidly spec'd ratio's. All the performance Sierra's came with low 1sts & a large gap to 2nd, it stops them doing the scoob trick of vapourising clutches & generating warranty claims
Even with the limiter removed, my 4x4 would struggle to pull much above 30mph.

bring on all the possible scenarios. If you accelerate quickly and the Sapphire is still locked in the garage then you will reach the shops before he does unless of course all for wheels on your Scooby are clamped then he will still get the drop on you.
My old xjs v12 would do 70 in first, but then that was a 3 speed auto, and if it was still living up to factory specs would have gone on to 160. never needed to verify that though. It wasnt any fun at all though.

Yep the GM400 boxes in XJS's do 60+ in 1st....120mph in 2nd
But 5.3 litres goes alot further than 2.0
Torque Flight and Borg Warner autoboxes weren't far away either. American based autoboxes always seemed to have very tall 1st and 2nd gears.
Now if it were a manual 2WD cossie, It would have had the BW T5 box and that has a far shorter 1st gear. I would have said it was a physical imposibility without bespoke one off parts being specifically made for the gearbox or the diff.

IIRC, manual Aston V8s used to do about 60 in first. But they did have fairly large engines!
Always possible your mate is looking at the rev counter - and he's actually getting 6000rpm in first!

Hmmm, this has got me thinking - what will my C5 vette do if 1st.
I would say about 60mph ish?
4 speed auto and 4th is good for 190mph...
A good mate of mine runs an ex works scort cossie with 370bhp. He has spent a lot of cash on the engine, its been rebuilt recently and he spent about 4k on the engine then LOL!
Any way he runs a silly 4.1 diff that gives him a top speed of about 100mph, but my god it gets there quick! It keeps up with my Caterham in a straight line! Anti lag sounds awesome too.
