Talking Anyone had an FTO?

As it says, my mate is thinking about a Mitsi FTO, & is just wondering what they're like.
What's the best version to have?
Am I right in thinking there's a V6 4x4 one, or was that just some special edition?

Thanks for the info

There all FWD. The 4 wheel drive version only appeared in the first Gran Turismo on Playstation and was created only in the mind of the game developer.

The GPX Type R is the only one to have. A mate has one, head on over to www.fto.net

I've got one, yeah the GPX is the best version, the typeR is stripped out, so you lose your electric mirrors/aircon etc...dpends what you're looking for. They're quick, not scooby-roo quick like. Best off heading off to an FTO forum to ask about them.

Yep , had a manual GPX for a couple of years.
Real fun car that lets you drive it 10/10ths. Lots of fun but
just needs to be quicker in my mind. With its looks it really could do with 4WD and a turbo.......................... If it had another 100bhp on top of the 200 it would be a right giggle.

I have a White manual GPX but had a tiptronic GR before...not a massive difference between the 2 but still great handling FWD cars...

My m8 has just stuck and Evo 4 (6A13) engine in his with Evo 7 internals and is getting 13.5s 1/4s hoping to get down to 12 in the next 6 months with some new mods tho So watch out for it in Paisley....it might just give you a surprise! Narrowly got beaten at Crail by an Evo 8 but it's still needing some tuning done...

What's the tiptronic like? Any good? Or is the manual better?

Tip box is good.

Old shape was 4 speed the facelift has 5 speed. As it's an engine with an 8k limit it lends itself to being revved hard so the 5 is better.

The good thing though is you have the best of both worlds. Auto in slow moving traffic and manual when going for a blast. The best bit is you can keep your foot on the floor when changing gear

I had a GPX pre-facelift for over 3 years, loved it.
That said diffs in performance are negligible between GP version R, GPX (both V6 with vvt) and GR's (V6 no vvt). Put them in the same league as you would a teggy R.
Put a good pilot in one and he/she will leave most on the twisty stuff.
Re tip boxes, you will hear of quite a few reports of 4sp tip box failures with people going for manual gearbox conversions instead of replacement because of perceived weakness of this tip box. Mine was a 4sp tip, I just went overboard on good quality tip oil/filter changes (every 6k plus post trackdays) and it served me fine. The 5sp tip is the sameas used in Galant VR4 TT and Evo 7(or is it 8).
As with all JapImports, do research into your purchase - the guys on www.ftooc.org are a very friendly bunch and would be happy to provide advice, decode chassis numbers for you so you know exactly what you're paying for.

The GPX has automatic air conditioning and the R has manual air con.
