Question Vauxhall VX220 - Info?

Turbo or not turbo?

Differences between old and new?

Any BBSs?

Any good or should I be visiting the Lowtarse garage instead?

Rich,

The turbo was really rated by Clarkson, and I think he struggled to fault it. Have a look on the Topgear site. I would have one over a Lotus (if I had the option ) as its a bit less of a stripped down racer, and has a few creature comforts....

Guy here had a non turbo in blue, and I was quite tempted...

Just been in a Turbo, apparently no more 2.2s are made, they are all Turbos....
Was nice actually, oviously very Elise like, not much different really, my leg still ached although not as much, the pedal positions seem a little different.
Certainly a lot nicer than that mk1 V6 Clio...

Tempting...

Pretty good, only a quick run back from the blackwater turn off on the spur road, plenty of traffic about... proper go next week... Difficult after jumping out of red thing into that. I bet if I drove there in the KA it would feel very quick

Just looking at vxt prices around, any good sites anyone?

I have decided you should get an R34 V-Spec. Job done.

Fun spending your money

I had a VX220 for a few months, cracking little car it was.

Consider it an Elise with better build quality and an unburstable engine.. (with an iffy badge).

I'd take a VX220 over an Elise any day of the week.. I simply couldn't justify spending £thousands more on a worse car just to say it's a Lotus.

Get one, you won't regret it !

Hi David, long time no speak. Still got the Exige?

Thanks for the info. Still not sure I can justify a car at the moment, just don't need one. Meg wasn't too keen when I suggested p/xing her car in for it.... Dunno why...

Hi Rich ! Life isn't for "needs" it's for "wants" They're very economical too - so there would be a saving there, and it's a great summer car.. go on you know you want to...

Exige ? No, that's been and gone.. as has the F355.. and the GT2.. and the Skyline.. and the Boxster.. and the ... the list goes on !

Rich, I thought long and hard about the VX, I'd have got one but I don't have any local dealers worth knowing, and they do go wrong (in small but annoying ways) with alarming frequency. The www.vx220.org.uk site is very good. You know I'm thinking about changing the porker for an Elise...but I've a very good Lotus garage local, so reliability less of a concern for me than it would be with a VX.

I have Westover sports 200 yards to my right and the Vauxhall gge a mile to my left...
Both have cars around 22-24k and both cars are nice.
So undecided so probably won't do either. Pay off some mortgage and be dull

Oh as for Turbo vs na, as always there are 2 camps..turbo 'grunt' makes it a better road car IMHO, though na's lighter weight and greater delicacy wins it loads of fans on track. Last thing I drove though was a MY04 Elise 111s and it was suprisingly good on the road, much more tractable engine than the old 118bhp series 1 I'd had for a weekend a couple years ago.
