New play thing (with pics)
#1
Heres my new play thing. S2000 is too expensive to risk regularly on track or competition, so Ive bought myself a 106 Rallye
Hard to find a nice one these days, but this one is exactly what I was after. White, no sunroof, Skip Brown fast road conversion(suspension/geom settings), magnex down pipe, only 60k miles and a pile of service history - 100bhp 1.3l engine. Will be using it for sprints, hillclimbs, track days etc. Like the S2000 it revs like a biatch.

driven one of these, are fantastic.. agree with you they have to be white and no sunroof, and still have the original steels on just like yours..
Is it just lowered a click on the torsion bar at the back?

Not sure, its got a Skip Brown conversion plate under the bonnet, Im not fully sure of what this involved, defo suspension geometry settings and lowering at the rear............I have a few plans for it myself too

I like the look of these little things, but never driven one.
Can you tell me why they are so good?
I Would like one to accompany my Megablde, as it is a hand full in the wet, and woudl like something for track day fun.
With only 100bhp they cant be that fast, but presume they are great fun to drive?
Tell me more

100bhp yes, but only 800kg in weight. There is no sound deadening, thin carpet, windee windows, no power steering ie very stripped out and basic ie ideal to buy and rally. Has a close ratio gear box, stiffen suspension etc etc. Very focused drivers car, sounds great, handles brilliantly (see EVO this month 5 star car - Ive never read a bad review of it ever)

cheers adp, look s like a fun little car
I know weight is improtent, my westy has only 130bhpo, but weights in at 450kg, and it shifts. The pug looks slow in comparison, but lets face it there is much more to these things that streightline speed. (like the westy)
How much should you pay for a nice one?

You could get a high mile er for £1200 ish, Though a good one like mine could go for more like £2500 they are getting rarer and rarer(what with so many being maxxed up or having genuinely been used as rally cars already) so nice ones are begining to command a bit more money, especially with the good press from Evo mag this month.
I bought mine to use for a bit of competition, specifically to fit into the up to 1.4 NA road going class. Try finding another car that fits into that class with similar performance figures? There is nt much top touch it.

max kids have spoilt them loads, ive only ever heard about one decent maxed one. it had the 1.6 16v lump out of the GT1 / saxo vts in it and a set of 16" white sparco alloys and it looked the nuts..
2.5k would get you a good one but i'd b looking more to the series2 rallye, which had a 8v 1.6 lump in it, and a touch heavier but handled just as good.. try www.106rallye.co.uk

My westy
Quicker than the pug and 900cc BUT no roof, And the pug costs significantly less (it seems) BEC cost around 4-10 grand, these dudes recon the pugs come in at 1.5-4 grand.
Seems good peformace for the price

125bhp/tonne, not bad!!!
I looked at Rallyes but could find one in my budget!! I only planned to spend £1000-1200, so I plumped for a CRX instead. Needed a little work, but a bargain at £1000!!
My CRX 16v has 130bhp/tonne (130bhp weighs about 1000kg), but I plan to take it up to about 150bhp (same power as the VTEC, but less weight!!)

Hi Andy,
Seems weve both moved on a bit since I met you up in Surrey and you had the Scoob and I had my ITR
CRX is a good choice and also allows you to come play with the Jap boys too Which, is why I didnt buy a boxster and went for an S2000 instead..........see you at Bolney maybe

Just checked out pryally`s car, it looks very nice, but more than i would like to spend.
Ideally id like a cheep, mi16 fixer upper (that is fully road legal and running, maybe just some bumps)
Whack some track tyres on and take it on track

I had one in red many years ago, great fun, reminisced when I read EVO last month it was so good that I bought a 1.6 Rallye a couple of years later which had lost the originals edge but was also still fun

They are great little FWD cars.
I got our son but unfortunately it was sold last summer.
Finding a good one is very very hard.
