Golf R32! very impressed!!

Hi folks!!
Just had two days at the nurburgring with RMA on monday tuesday this week.
well the car handled very well, steering was sharp on circuit, not the normal vague VAG steering
the car was chipped which helped he crispness of the throttle more than anything.
it didnt understeer as much as i expectedand turn in was sharp.
the handling wasnt entertaining but very safe and predictable which believe me on the ring was a bonus!!! at 125 euros per 3 metres of armco i was glad to stay on the black stuff.
it averaged 26 mpg including a few 150mph blast on the continent.
overall very impressed even if everyone slags em off, and im an ex scooby owner

It felt like a proper golf!!! really solid, didnt feel over weight and sounded the dogs!!!
nice ring car...comfy to drive there and then does its stuff on the track..couldnt of drove my scoob there so effortlessly.
it held its own with some of the faster cars too...apart from a GT2 with one of the instructors driving that we gave a lift over to germany...GT 2's are sweet!!!

Im another one who loves em. Never been a big fan of the modern golfs but this one just says sex on wheels. Especially in that dark blue metallic colour.
How much is one brand new? Might be tempted to get one 2nd hand. Anyone got some decent stats whilst we are on the subject.
Hiya Dave - u got rid of the Sti then? Ive left Cambridge now and am down sarf near Reading.
Simon.

yeah 240bhp....320ftlb of torque!!!
this one was chipped..but it made it real crisp on the throttle!!
it just sounded awesome inside and i would much rather travel distance in one over a scoob.
they about 22k new standard but there arent any standard ones...most come with a good spec....
but the seem to be one or on the second hand market now

Hi Simon
STi long gone
Had a VX220 Turbo in between but need something a bit more practical so went for the R32

I'm looking forward to it. And also the fact it is off to AmD Friday next week for their Stage 2 270bhp/270ft/lb conversion

My local dealer has got a standard 5 door, but beware the 'cloth' seats have plastic/vinyl sides/backs, the leather option is £1900 and pale grey alcantara £1,200! Used dealer prices are so close to new, why risk one that's been thrashed? Virgin cars have a couple too, which they say saves £1,500.

A couple of things to add to that.....
Some secondhand ones are up at over list price at dealers
New? I got the last Deep Blue 3 door with cloth upholstery in the country. Production has stopped due to the mk5 golf being out in the New Year (but no R32 replacement for about 18 months) which is why I grabbed the one I wanted.
There are literally only a handful of genuine UK new cars left now. There are some imports around.
If you want a new one, probably too late now

Officially I hear there are 8 at VW dealers with still one or two built but awaiting shipment. Autotrader search will confirm a number of them, but agree orders will not now be taken.

There are LOTS of cars available new. However if you want Deep Blue with Monte Carlo cloth you might struggle
I found numerous dealers with 4/5 cars each - even my small local dealer has 2 in the showroom with 3 more cars coming. Discounts are not a naughty word. Nearly a grand off list should be expected. A lot of the cars have leather or that horrible alcantara.

Well, picked mine up on Friday, got 500 miles on it so far, very impressed.
It's off to AmD on Friday for a Milltek exhaust and remap - 270bhp/270ft/lb

Best vdub at the moment for sure, I'd rather have one than an s3 as well one went BOOMING past me the other day, lovely low down brutish sound, but bet that gets tiring on the motorway..

well we did 1500 miles to the ring and back, never had a headache or anything, very pleasent on the motorway much quieter than a scoob...just a lovely burble!!!
