Depends alot on what you want. If you are after fun and enjoyment from driving then I don't think you'll beat it. I've had a standard S1 since february and have loved it from the word go. The general opinion is that from 80-90 upwards an Elise will struggle and they do. But getting to those speeds is the fun part.
I recently took out an Evo8(as I was beginning to think the elise was slow) and have to say that I was underwhelmed by the experience. The Evo is an amazing piece of kit but to appreciate it you have to drive at stupid speeds. The Elise is the exact opposite, doing 60 mph feels like 100 and with the roof off you can't go wrong(don't know if i'll be saying that in a few months)

I know that when I look back, owning the Elise will be one of the most enjoyable things I did. Great fun, comeraderie, sense of occasion......... in short do it.

My mates car is on
http://www.pistonheads.com/ads/adverts.asp?s=12&p=3
its the
Titanium S1 Elise For Sale. 99/V ref 12708,
a damn good fun car, as already said, you don't need to be doing 120 as in the scoob to get a sense of speed and fun, a very communicative little car!!

Also have a look at a VX220
Mate just chose one of these over the Elise because it's easier for servicing and parts etc. Basically take it to the Vauxhall garage. Just as fun if not more so.

Elise or VX, not much in it, I prefer Elise.
I can't see me ever giving up my Elise, much fun has been had since I collected her at begining of April, 5th trackday at Brands GP next monday, and SELOC community is fantastic adds so much to the ownership.
I have a S2 Sports Tourer, with Exhaust and ITG Induction. I didnt like the 111S, or the VX220/Turbo, 111S needs the CR Gearbox, and the VX well needs a makeover IMHO, but if it wasnt so boxy I would have gone for it.

My car does 0-100 in about 12.5s and I've played with a few elises and VX's. The result is nearly always the same: From 20-80mph they pretty much match me (I'm pulling away ever so slightly) but then at 80mph the scooby begins to stretch her legs. I'd say an elise with about 150bhp would be more than enough for most peeps

111s is an excellent car and very fast, it has slightly longer gearing than the standard car, which means that at M-way cruise speeds its a little less noisy. The latest versions are very impressive and the sound-deadening in the cockpit and general build quality improvement are welcome additions. Guess it depends what you want the car for,the elise really has the best steering and handling going, it is much better than a wrx scoob i find. The thing with the elise is that 80mph feels much faster and the level of involvement you get is huge. The scoob is equally capable down a b road -probably faster in fact as it just hoovers up the road ahead without any fuss. They are both excellent, but you can't really compare them like for like as they are so different to drive. I've just moved from an elise S2 to a scoob by the way!

I have an Elise S2 111S and the performance is more than edequate, in fact it is a very quick car because of it's excellent power to weight ratio. I've had 2 Evo's and a Skyline before and there's no way that I could describe the Elise as slow. It's just so much fun to drive, but you do have to rev it hard to make it fly because the engine doesn't make much torque.

in the 111s, the best revs to change up are 7k i think.
even tho the change up light is 6ish
sounds great and really moves.. or it did on the track at knockhill
wish i could afford one NOW

Dave I didnt think they are too dismissive of it, there is a chap called Thorney who tends to post with a VX220 Turbo, I don't think he gets too much abuse

John's a good bloke.
His VXT is currently putting out 232bhp.
Expect more when the AmD remap/chargecooler are fitted - I think he's aiming for around 250bhp/260ft/lb
