just got one of these, very, very impressed with the performance, handling (for a big GT) & build quality etc of these cars
46k new 5 years ago, thought about an M3/M5 but these are a lot cheaper & 4wd.....& it's a family car just to keep the missus quiet, as she's driving it mostly
what are your thoughts ??

pretty impressive I think:
0-60: 5.3-5.5
0-100: 13.1
0-100-0: 18.1
all in standard spec...not bad for an 1800kg car.
very smooth delivery of power & it has electronic suspension which is pretty good in sport mode
Thanks to IWatkins for reminding me of the costs of any probs with electronic gadgets

no, it's a twin turbo (x 2) seen as how your prob taking the p1ss anyway FP
so it would appear that it's not a popular motor then, didn't even get a reply from the lancer register

Shunty,
Don't get me wrong, nice car, strong engine by all accounts and it is a proper GT. However, I've heard horror stories about costs should something electrical go wrong.
Also seem to remember it was designed and built for the American market ?
But don't worry about it, just enjoy
Cheers
Ian

Faster Mike is right
All you need to do is find the boost solenoid, unscrew the housing and pull out the small plastic insert valve which was put there to restrict the power to 280BHP, this takes power to over 300BHP. Also you can de-cat the front downpipe and this gives another 20BHP. Cheap and easy way to get another 50BHP I say.
This was in Jap performance magazine and I think based on the JDM car so not totally sure whether this applies to the UK car, but would assume it uses the same twin turbo engine and has the same restrictions.

I thought the GT had 320 bhp & 315lbs as standard anyway ??
or is that just the import ones then ?
I have just registered on the GT 3000 bbs, so I will ask about this as it sounds acheap way of getting a bit more power.
cheers

Maybe it is just the imports only then?, although I think alot of imports may have more power than the 280 there supposed to stick to, and it might be nearer the UK equivalent anyway, but I'm sure the 3000 bbs will let you know

I had one of the last run of UK 3000GTs from new 3 years ago.
The engine was the best part - V6 Twin Turbo - very smooth and full of torque. 4 Wheel drive and 4 wheel steer led to easy 4 wheel drifts and I gave many a boy racer a few surprises going round them. Very easy to mod and unleash more power.
BUT and this is the big BUT - the eletrics are a nightmare and the dealers make the situation worse since they don't see too many of them and they don't know what they are doing!!
Mine (too many problems to list) started to cut the engine at speed, which drops the power steering, hydraulics etc. After nearly killing me twice I was glad to see the back of it but so many problems, 2 years from new - what the ****?
Be very, very careful - I pity the poor soul who bought mine from the leasing company?????

yeah, Iwatkins mentioned the electrics as well...
that's a bit worring if yours was only 2-3 years old as well
as you mentioned the handling, I find the 3000 GT better than my scooby which had full STI 5 suspension/springs, but I think that could have been down to my setup was too stiff for West yorkshire's roads, whereas the GT is a bit softer even in sport mode.
I remember John Banks (I think) saying that sometimes slightly softer suspension was actually better for the car if your not on smooth tarmac.

I remember seeing a lot of these in the states, as well as its re-bodied brother, the Dodge Stealth.
Let us know how you get on with it - I like them - and they aren't as "medallion man" as a Supra.
The Stealth if you are interested - suprisingly quite good looking for a yank tank.

dela - I think they are a superb looking mota, I would agree about the supra being a worse image than the 3000 (mind you I like them as well)
do people class the audi S4 as a huge car, because one of the reps parked his next to mine today & it's almost identical in length??
people keep saying it's a barge
