Question

Good moring all:-

My Evo6 drinks more fuel than I can believe, and I am looking for an every day tootling to work car for about £1,500.00 - £2,000.00.

Mileage is not important, and looking throught the Autotrader the following have come up:- Clio, 205, Escort, Fiesta and the like.

Anyone got any ideas on what would be economical and relaible.

PS Saw a Toyota 3.0 Supra Turbo with 44,000 miles for £1,500 and was very very tempted but the wife will go up the wall if I buy a guzzler like that!

Thank you in advance!

205 TD, get one of the last of the line versions, plenty quick enough to keep up with the flow, and my mate who does a 55 mile commute from Luton to London, is getting 52mpg out of his.

second the MK2 golf idea- you will be able to get a 16V Mk2 for this sort of cash. They will do 40mpg and 0-60 in 8 secs- you can also insure them on a classic policy. Add that to reliability and a fairly high spec for such an old car and how can you go wrong?

Cool

Great idea - quite fancy one of the 16v with the BBS alloys - if I can find a decent one.

Will keep checking the Autotrader website.

Hmm, Autotrader has 2 that I can see 1@88K for an H plate £1200 and 1@88K for a J plate £1800
Not really mega miles for a car of that reputation.

Get a Civic. Frugal, fun, plenty around for that price and utterly reliable.

1.5 Vtec frugal version.
1.6 16v (90-92) cracking car. Cheap too.
1.6 Vti (92 -> ) great motors, very quick.

Pristine Austin Maxi 1500. You may even stretch to a 1750 HL with brown vinyl roof on that budget. Mind how you go....Blutes

I've just bought a filthy dirty but completely honest and original Golf GTi 8v Mk2, for about the same price as a Scooby exhaust.

These cars never cease to amaze me: at 112K miles and 13 years old it feels like a 2 year old car. IMHO they hide the miles and last the distance as well as any Merc,

Still go and handle as sweetly as they ever did.

Do what I did and a few others on here and get yourself a Daihatsu Charade GTti. Good mpg and can be tuned to be seriously rapid and you can get quite a good on for £1500.

1 litre 3 cylinder twincam turbo engine sounds great too !

Check out www.gttioc.co.uk

Not if you have the contacts I have ! Quite easy to find with head gaskets blown and to replace them is honestly not hard. Could do one in 2-3 hours.

I know of 2 very good cars for sale and 4 others that need work doing like head gaskets but nothing scary.

If one co,es up though be very, very quick as they are highly desirable. Oh and forget the Parkers Guide prices as they are totally wrong !

Found another one in a barn in Diss with a soare engine and box and loads of spares. Sounds like an easy 1 day rebuild.
