I`m selling the Gti Engineering MK2 Golf 16V & I`m after another motor. It`s got to be quite quick but be able to fit in my diving/snowboarding gear in for around £3ish k (up to £4k at a push) & packed with goodies, cruise, air, auto(?), leather.
Any ideas?

Cars considered so far-
T5 850 Volvo
Omega 3 litre
SAAB 9000 Carlsson
BMW 5/25/30/35
I wait with baited breath

Go for either the volvo or the saab. The other two don't have the image they used to have. Plus the other have turbo engines....

PS. If you want a BMW, go DEFINATELY for 540i , you won't believe the power and the smoothness of the engine. I've driven the 1993 740 and the car was feckin' fast! imagine how fast it would be in the 5-series, plus you get LOADS of equipment.

I had a T5 and it was a great car, bi thirsty but fast and very practical, had it for four years with no real problems, even the tyres are cheap nowadays. As quick if not quicker than a standard UK turbo once rolling (not from a standstill or round any kind of corner)

Legacy GTB?
Stick with Subaru but just buy the big brother...
Bags of fun and you'll pick up a good single turbo uk car for that money!

Cool

If you're planning on going anywhere with snow & ice, give the Volvo a miss. I had to tow a mates out twice whilst we were in Aviemore, the turbo comes in too suddenly to allow you to maintain traction.

I'd go with the Saab or Volvo too. I had a 2.3 Saab 9000 Carlsson (220BHP) which was a lot quicker that most people think! Saabs in general are supposed to be v.good in the snow, though mine 'suffered' from torque steer (I liked it!) For £3k you'd be looking at a mint 2.3 CS Carlsson or an early 9000 Aero. (Carlssons are wilder than Aero's, though you will get more mpg from the Aero's - easier to get hold of an Aero too).

I'll sell you a 620ti for £1500. 96 p-reg, 127000 (mainly motorway) miles, red, half leather, aircon, electric windows.
