That sounds pricey to me. I got my mum a 318iS coupe, 95 N with 80k for 5k a couple of years back. Sold it 18 months and 20k later for the same
It never missed a beat when she had it, but apparently a few months after she sold it the engine went bang big style.
Older BMWs can lead to big big bills IME.

No bum answers please. Well try not too anyway LOL!!
Has anyone owned one of these cars? What were they like?
I have a perfectly sick reason for buying one.
My mate has bought the last of the old shape 320 on a T reg. He paid 13K for it. The one Im looking at is K reg 316 with all electrics colour coded etc. All I can see I'd need to do is change to a private reg and the badge to a 320. Sick, you bet!! - hes turned into a pompous *** since getting the prestigious '3 series'. However, the one I'm looking at is only going for 3K.
My only concern is a 115K mileage, but otherwise its in pretty good nick for a 92.
The only thing I really like about it is the bonnet lifters - cool as!! But more importantly - it'd be worth the look on my mates face!! He didnt want an Impreza, Evo, type-r etc because....they are all spoilers and boy racers car's.
Help me stuff one up him with good advice.
Also, I drive a punto at the moment - and even an old BMW is better than that. <Just in case your wondering>

Sounds over-priced.
Seems a waste of money just to p1ss your mate off.
He's no reason to be pompous over a 320i - hardly a fast car! The e30 320i is quicker of the mark!
316s are REALLY slow and under powered. Plus, the 4cyl 8 valve engines don't take the miles anywhere as well as the straight 6 lumps.

Read up on it with Parkers and it doesnt fill me with any sense of want with the performance figures. Price wise it seems to be in the 'good' category. I think as a daily runabout it might be pretty good though. Its got 102 bhp, so its probably the equivalent performance of my girlfriends 1.4 Civic, which is better than a 1.1 punto. The Punto is the 'run it to work and back' car - perfect for the asda car park dings and dents.
Meant to say I also have an 94 ltd ed WRX STi, in case any of you think I'm just a wannabe scoobynetter.
I'm really in two minds, as its a better bigger car. Plus dont want to **** my mate off too much, but I think he'd be cool about it (after a few years LOL!!).

The 316i is Ok, but performance wise it's a real no-no.
The 318iS has the 4 cylinder 1800/1900 16v lump and kicks out 140bhp; fairly swift but hardly quick.
The ^ cylinder 325 / 328 (I think) are pretty quick and we all know of the M3...
£3k does sound a lot for the 316, I wouldn't be too bothered at 115k miles if it has A1 service history, but i'd be inclined spend my £3k elsewhere...If you hunt around you'll find 320iSe's at this age for the money...

Thanks for the reply guys. I've settled on a 318 or 320. I test drove the 316 and its supremely slow. Pretty shocking actually. doing the whole autotrader/parkers thing now - so should get something reasonable to replace the even slower Punto.

I had a 316 for 2 years L reg, very nice cars and comfy,
a little slow but quick enough for a big car, very good
quality, never had anything go wrong with it, but if I had
to have another I would definatly go for the 6 cylinder 2 litre
(great engine) or you could even go for a 1.8 16valver as in
the coupe but which ever you get make sure its got a FBMWSH
Dont bother to keep it going though (vastly over priced) but
at least you know it has been looked after,
Cheers Taffyboyo!!!!!

Older BMWs can lead to big big bills IME
My 5 series costs me £60 for a full service
(NGK twin spark plugs / semi synth oil, etc)
all done at a specialist BMW centre (not a poxy main dealer)
New front discs and pads (£100 fitted)
New breather pipe, plus computer reset (£30) fitted!!
This is cheaper than a ford to run, i kid you not!!!
